The latest update to Minecraft has apparently broken the game on the Nintendo Switch but Mojang is now well aware of the issue and is working to fix the issue. Minecraft’s latest update, version 1.16.20, introduced several new features, changes to the crafting interface, and added Piglin Brutes, which are tougher versions of the regular Piglins that aren’t distracted by gold, don’t run away in fear, and attack players on sight.

Minecraft also recently released the Jurassic World DLC, which lets players create and build their own dinosaur-inhabited parks and exhibits, craft and train dinosaurs, go on expeditions to discover dinosaur DNA, solve problems, and more. Notably, the Jurassic World DLC is a separate experience from the base game, so many of the DLC’s assets and mechanics, including the dinosaurs, will not be transferable or usable in the base game. It’s not as if the base game of Minecraft is lacking in features though as players are capable of creating some amazing things within the game, such as this one player who somehow got Minecraft working in Minecraft.

After the release of the version 1.16.20, Minecraft players on the Switch began experiencing stability issues. According to a report on the Mojang bug reporting platform by user Miya Southwood, they’ve begun experiencing freezes or the actual console freezing since updating the game. A report by NintendoLife also references several tweets by players who are experiencing similar problems, with one user experiencing issues with connecting to their Microsoft account as well.

@MojangSupport i have been experiencing problems with my minecraft on nintendo switch. It has been freezing the whole switch and also not connecting my microsoft account which means i cannot play with my cross platform friends. Please get back to me as soon as you can.

A little over a week after version 1.16.20 was released and users began reporting issues, Mojang released a hotfix, version 1.16.21, for the game on the Switch that sought to fix the game’s issues on the platform. According to the patch notes, the update fixes stability issues when users are playing Minecraft or are interacting with the home screen while they’re signed in to their Microsoft accounts. Mojang doesn’t make it clear whether the connection to the Microsoft account is the root of the ongoing issue, but users who have updated to the hotfix have had mixed results.

Mojang does urge players in the hotfix patch notes to keep reporting any issues they continue to encounter to help the developers fix the issues completely. Hopefully feedback from the player community on the Switch will help resolve the ongoing issues swiftly so players can continue to enjoy both the new version of Minecraft as well as the new Jurassic World DLC.
