Mitt Romney dresses up as Ted Lasso for Halloween in a series of cringey videos. Since premiering on Apple TV+ in August of last year, Ted Lasso has caught on as the streamer’s flagship series and perhaps the most critically-acclaimed comedy currently on television. At the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards, Ted Lasso garnered a whopping total of 20 nominations, including wins for its lead stars Jason Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, and Brett Goldstein, as well as a win for Outstanding Comedy Series.

Season 2, which just wrapped airing earlier this month, wasn’t as well-received by fans, but the backlash wasn’t enough to stop Apple TV+ from moving forward with plans for a third season, which will seemingly be the end of Ted Lasso in its current format. Based on promos for NBC Sports, Ted Lasso follows Sudeikis as the titular American football coach who is unexpectedly recruited to manage a Premier League team known as AFC Richmond. Despite his early struggles, Ted eventually wins over the team and the town with his unparalleled positivity and charm.

With Ted Lasso capturing the hearts and minds of viewers everywhere, the character’s signature mustache and khakis are sure to make for a popular Halloween costume this year, exemplified by none other than Mitt Romney, the former Republican presidential candidate and current Senator from Utah. In a series of videos posted to his Twitter page, Romney is seen sporting the aforementioned ‘stache and pants, but he also went the extra mile by hanging up a “Believe” sign in his office, a nod to the one seen in AFC Richmond’s locker room in the show. Check out the videos below:

It’s unclear if Romney decided to dress up like Ted Lasso as a wink and a nod to Sudeikis, who frequently portrayed him on Saturday Night Live during his run for president in 2012, eventually losing to incumbent president Barack Obama. Or perhaps, Romney is just a fan of the show. Nevertheless, his Ted Lasso cosplay is beginning to go viral online, with many deeming the videos cringey or an attempt at pandering, especially since he mixed up and captioned one with a quote from Friday Night Lights.

Sudeikis’ fictional football manager is sure to top the list of most popular Halloween costumes this year, along with the contestants and guards from Netflix’s hit series Squid Game. While the COVID-19 pandemic prevented a traditional Halloween from happening last year, hopefully with cases down, this year’s holiday will represent a return to normalcy. For Ted Lasso, everyone’s favorite fish-out-of-water football manager is expected to return to Apple TV+ next summer.
