MonsterVerse Theory Who Godzilla vs Kongs Villains Really Are

Mechagodzilla may not be the biggest threat facing the titular Titans in Godzilla vs. Kong. The upcoming fourth installment in the MonsterVerse will see the King of the Monsters and the King of Skull Island square off on the big screen for the first time in over 50 years. Unlike their last fight, which didn’t provide a clear outcome, the battle between the two monsters in Godzilla vs. Kong is confirmed to offer a definitive winner.

That being said, there’s an expectation that both the winner and the loser will eventually be forced to come together and team-up against a powerful adversary. As for who this villain could be, the general assumption is that their common enemy is none other than Mechagodzilla, Godzilla’s robotic counterpart from Toho’s movies. The classic kaiju’s inclusion in Godzilla vs. Kong was spoiled by a Mechagodzilla action figure that was shown off at a toy convention. It would seem that Mechagodzilla, who is Godzilla’s second greatest enemy behind King Ghidorah, will get a chance to face both Godzilla and Kong.

In the Showa series of Godzilla movies, in the 1970s, Mechagodzilla was a weapon created by aliens to defeat Godzilla and conquer the Earth. In the Heisei and Millennium eras, Mechagodzilla was utilized as a for good by the Japanese government. It could be that Legendary’s take on the robotic kaiju will send him back to his roots as a pawn of the movie’s human villains. In the synopsis, it was said that Monarch will be up against a human conspiracy engineered to put an end to all the Titans in the MonsterVerse. However, other details from Godzilla: King of the Monsters and the Godzilla vs. Kong synopsis could point to the situation being more complicated than that. In fact, the real threat may not be Mechagodzilla or the humans controlling him, but something else entirely.

Godzilla vs. Kong Needs Multiple Villains (Not Just Mechagodzilla)

MonsterVerse Theory Who Godzilla vs Kongs Villains Really Are

A central aspect of Godzilla’s character is rooted in his title: King of the Monsters. Godzilla is known for triumphing over his opponents. And so far, the MonsterVerse has succeeded in honoring the reputation of Toho’s Godzilla. In the 2014 movie, it was made clear that neither MUTO could beat him alone. As for King of the Monsters, Godzilla defeated Ghidorah in the second fight, and only needed help from Mothra in the rematch because Ghidorah was supercharged with electricity. True to how fans view Godzilla, the MonsterVerse version of the monster has proven to be superior to his fellow Titans. Godzilla vs. Kong, though, could threaten to change that by having him team up with Kong against Mechagodzilla. Having Godzilla rely on Kong to beat an enemy would downplay his prowess in battle.

The Godzilla vs. Kong synopsis has suggested that Godzilla and Kong are the strongest forces in the MonsterVerse. Taking that into consideration, there shouldn’t be any one monster that can provide a sufficient challenge to both of them at once. If Godzilla and Kong really are that powerful, it should take multiple opponents to give them a good a fight. Godzilla vs. Kong wouldn’t be able to adequately sell them as Earth’s most powerful monsters if they have to rely on teamwork to stop Mechagodzilla. Plus, one of the most important themes of the MonsterVerse is that nature always wins, so Mechagodzilla being stronger than the real thing would certainly undermine that.

King of the Monsters Teased A Secret Titan

For the above reasons, Godzilla vs. Kong may be hiding more villains for Godzilla and Kong to fight, and one may have already been teased by the Godzilla: King of the Monsters credits. A set of coordinates accompanied the cryptic line, “but how long will it take for the fires to awaken and send our own civilization into collapse.” The coordinates point to an ancient temple in Turkey, which could be the resting place of another Titan. What’s interesting about that is that none of Monarch’s outposts are located in that area, which means that if there is indeed a monster there, Monarch doesn’t know about it yet.

As for the line in the credits, it leaves an ominous impression of whatever is down there. Apparently, this Titan is so formidable that human civilization as a whole will be in danger of collapsing if he ever awakens. It’s also worth pointing out that this secret Titan was Godzilla: King of the Monsters’ final tease, which could have meaning in itself. As for why this creature wasn’t woken up by Ghidorah’s call, it could be that he’s living deep in the Hollow Earth, and wasn’t able to hear him.

Godzilla & Kong Could Face New Titans in Hollow Earth

If there is a secret Titan capable of bringing civilization to an end, the plot of Godzilla vs. Kong presents the perfect opportunity for him to emerge. The movie’s human story will involve Monarch exploring the Hollow Earth tunnels as a part of their investigation into the origin of the Titans. It could be that if Monarch goes deep enough, they’ll cause a chain reaction that stirs up some of the monsters dwelling in the Hollow Earth. That could be where King of the Monsters’ secret Titan comes into the picture. Also, this mysterious monster may not be alone down there. There could be multiple, menacing Titans hibernating in the tunnels. One could be the winged serpent seen on the packaging of recently-released Godzilla vs. Kong toys.

If Monarch accidentally wakes them up, they could interrupt Godzilla and Kong’s fight. If there’s several of them, that would be reason enough for Godzilla to form an alliance with his enemy. A great number of Hollow Earth Titans fighting together on the same side would explain why the battle in Godzilla vs. Kong is being called a “monster war”. Furthermore, it’s been said that at least some of the fighting will take place beneath the surface. Godzilla and Kong fighting underground would make sense if they both know that newly awakened Titans are about to escape from the Hollow Earth and wreak havoc. As for who these Hollow Earth Titans could be, it’s likely that the movie will follow the example of Godzilla: King of the Monsters and introduce mostly original Titans, but it is possible that the film is also hiding a Toho villain or two.
