This anime has become super popular, taking the familiar concept of superheroes and tying it into something totally and utterly unique. Watching a new batch of superheroes rising up to the task at hand and saving the world from some truly impressive and intriguing villains is thoroughly entertaining.

One such hero who is destined to achieve greatness is Shoto Todoroki, an extremely powerful hero with the ability to use both ice and fire to achieve impressive results. The fact that Todoroki is one of the most popular heroes around is a testament to just how intriguing he really is as a character, and there are a multitude of fans who definitely would want to know everything about this character. 10 His Name Has Characters For Burning And Freezing

One cool thing about Todoroki is the fact that his first name has both the kanji for burning (sho) and freezing (to).

Since this motif has been observed across a number of characters in My Hero Academia, it’s only apt to assume that this was also an intentional move from Kohei Horikoshi.

9 He Loves Cold Soba

A rather obscure, relatively inconsequential fact about Todoroki that most people might not be aware of is the fact that he really, really loves cold soba. While this might not have been shown outright in the anime, it’s a fact that has been emphasized quite a bit in the character profile of the manga’s second volume.

8 He Was The First Character Designed After The School Setting Was Finalized

Before it was decided to base My Hero Academia around a high school, there were three characters that Horikoshi had already designed: the main character (Midoriya), his rival-turned-friend (Bakugo), and his main love interest (Uraraka).

However, it was only after the high school setting was finalized that Horikoshi started work on the characters who would populate Class 1-A. The first character to be designed after this decision? Shoto Todoroki.

7 He Received The Most Nominations For His U.A. Sports Festival Performance

While he might’ve finished second in the U.A. Sports Festival, there’s no denying that Todoroki’s performance was nothing short of spectacular. In fact, his performance was so great that he even ended up getting the most nominations, even ahead of Bakugo!

6 He Fares Really Well Academically, As Well

If his practical skills weren’t enough, Shoto also delivers excellent performances on an academic level, as well. He ranked fifth in the mid-terms, which is no easy feat considering the academic prowess of most Class 1-A students.

While his failing attempt to clear the Provisional Hero License Exam is perhaps the only blemish on his record, there’s still no denying the fact that his technical skills are quite impressive indeed.

5 He Didn’t Even Need To Pass The Entrance Exam To Be Selected

In fact, it’s pretty evident that Todoroki was destined for greatness from the get-go. After all, he didn’t even need to pass the U.A. Entrance Exam to be selected; he simply got selected on the basis of recommendation.

It’s clear to see why this is the case, as Endeavor has always wanted a child who’s the most powerful hero, and the fact that he finally has that in Shoto means that the once-No. 2 Hero would’ve wanted everything in his power to ensure that no blockades lie in his prodigal son’s journey to become the very best. 4 Shoto Suffers From PTSD

Endeavor pulled no punches in his training with his kids, which was obviously the wrong move for a child who needed more love and less training in his development. The fact his mother was mentally broken by her husband and lashed out unwittingly at her child was the breaking point, and Shoto has been scarred mentally ever since this instance.

3 He Used To Be A Pretty Cheerful Kid

It’s a shame that Todoroki has grown up to be somewhat cold-hearted, given the fact that multiple flashbacks showed him as an innocent kid who genuinely loved his family. However, the cumulation of his father’s abuse and her mother’s mental breakdown forced Todoroki into becoming way too mature for his age, to the point where his once-cheerful self has been replaced by a rather somber one.

2 Midoriya Played A Heavy Role In His Development As A Character

That being said, not all was lost for Todoroki’s character; the vestiges of his idealistic young self still remained in him, and it took a spirited talk from Midoriya to ignite these flames… both figuratively and literally.

Not only did this lead to one of the coolest moments in the entire series, but it also helped Todoroki develop immensely as a character, to the point where all his baggage was slowly by surely taken away as the series progressed.

Another thing that most people would’ve noticed after the battle between Todoroki and Midoriya is the fact that the former decided to value his bonds and friendships even more. Whether it be though acknowledging Midoriya or helping out his friends against Stain, Todoroki has shown time and time again that he will lay down his own life if it meant saving the people he’s formed a bond with.
