My Hero Academia: Class 1-B Ranked

Class 1-B doesn’t always get as much attention as 1-A, but they have some pretty strong students as well. Here’s how they rank.

Fans have obviously seen a whole lot of Class 1A throughout the course of My Hero Academia. But did you know that there’s an entire other class of UA students? They’ve made a few cameos in the anime, and several more in the manga.

This article is going to talk about those overlooked students. Actually, we’re going to do more than that. We’re going to go ahead and rank each and every student in 1-B. Since we don’t know as much as we’d like about some of these characters, we reserve the right to change our minds at a later date! But for now, this is how their rankings stand.

This list contains spoilers from the manga.

20 Kinoko Komori

Kinoko Komori, AKA Shemage is a girl that looks shy and easily intimidated. But once you get her fighting, her true personality starts to shine. She’s actually quite confident and excited, especially in regards to using her quirk. Kinoko Mushroom quirk allows her to create and spread the fungus she loves so much. And they can even be toxic if needed.

19 Hiryu Rin

Hiryu Rin, aka Dragon Shroud, is a hero (in training) that works well with others. His quirk is Scales, which lets him (unsurprisingly) grow scales across his skin as protection. He can also turn the scales into a projectile as needed.

18 Shihai Kuroiro

Shihai Kuroiro, AKA Scheming Hero: Vantablack is a hero (in training) who has earned his name. He’s sly and unafraid to lie or do whatever it takes to pull the wool over somebody’s eyes. Shihai’s quirk is known very directly as Black. He can quite literally mere his body into anything that is a dark enough color, including shadows. He’s also one of the few characters listed as having tactical intellect. So don’t mess with him.

17 Manga Fukidashi

Before you ask, no this is not another invisible character. Manga Fukidashi, aka Comicman is is an aptly named character. His quirk (Comic) allows him to cause words to pop into the air – much like a comic book. The words he produces can have the same effect as their meaning, but he can’t use it too much.

16 Yui Kodai

Yui Kodai is one of those characters that you can easily overlook, both with her more normal design and her calm and quiet demeanor. Thus we don’t know a ton about her, outside of her quirk. Her quirk is known as Size. That means that she can change the size of anything she touches, as long as said objects aren’t living.

15 Yosetsu Awase

Fans will remember Yosetsu’s most iconic appearance so far: he was the young hero who dragged Momo to safety during the attack over the summer. He’s a bit of a tense character, but he’s also extremely selfless – as evidenced by the way he tried to shield Momo. Yosetsu’s quirk is weld, which means h can fuse any two objects together at the atomic level. Pretty impressive, right?

14 Kojiro Bondo

Kojiro Bondo, aka Plamo is a metahuman who’s actually much like Koda in his behavior. His quirk is Cemedine, and with it, he can produce and spray a quick-drying glue of varying adhesive qualities.

13 Togaru Kamakiri

Togaru’s hero name is Jack Mantis – which is a pretty appropriate name, all things considered. Despite his appearance, Togaru is actually quite hot-headed, as he always seems to be ready for a fight (especially if he can take on Bakugo). Togaru’s quirk is Razor Sharp, which means that he can produce razor sharp blades from any part of his body. Ouch.

12 Pony Tsunotori

Pony Tsunotori is one of the few foreigners in Class 1-B, and she’s fairly shy and timid. Or at least, we think she’s shy. That might be because she doesn’t know much Japanese. Pony’s quirk is known as Horn Cannon. As you can see, she has two horns on her head. She can eject them as projectiles as she wishes, and has complete control over them while in use.

11 Reiko Yanagi

Reiko Yanagi is a bit of an odd duck. She’s always shown in odd positions, as you can clearly tell. Her quirk is Poltergeist, and it allows her to telekinetically manipulate people – much like they were puppets.

10 Kosei Tsuburaba

Kosei Tsuburaba is one of the more competitive students in Class 1-B. It’s because he holds himself to such high standards that he’s come so far. His quirk is known as Solid Air, which is fairly self-explanatory. He can turn the air escaping from his lungs into a solid mass, which can be turned into an offensive or defensive move.

9 Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu

Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu is best known for the fact that his quirk mirrors Kirishima’s. His hero name is Real Steel, and that’s an accurate name. His Steel quirk allows him to turn his skin into steel, and he’s currently working through the limitations that come with this quirk (much like Kirishima is working with his own).

8 Jurota Shishida

Jurota Shishida, aka Gevaudan is another bright character from Class 1-B. His quirk is known as Beast – and you can probably guess what that entails. He can turn into a large beast like creature, and it comes with several enhancements as well.

7 Juzo Honenuki

Juzo Honenuki uses the hero name Mudman, and he’s a competitive character who’s a bit of a sore loser. Despite that he’s pretty chill when putting up with the rest of his class, even the louder ones. His quirk (Softening) allows him to soften anything around him, as long as it’s not alive. That means he can turn the ground into quicksand, and other clever tactics like that.

6 Sen Kaibara

Sen Kaibara is one of the more stoic students from class 1-B. He’s certainly more mature than certain other members of his class (looking at you, Monoma). Sen’s quirk is called Gyrate, which is admittedly a bit of a funny name. He can rotate any part of his body, kind of like a drill. That means he’s pretty dangerous in hand-to-hand combat.

5 Nirengeki Shoda

Nirengeki Shoda, aka Mines is a shy and humble character, but one who is literally analytically brilliant (it’s listed on his stats). His quirk is Twin Impact, which means that he can hit a target, and then hit said target again a second time – in the exact same spot.

4 Ibara Shiozaki

Ibara Shiozaki is another member of Class 1-B that we’ve seen a fair amount of. She fought both Kaminari and Iida during the U.A. Tournament. Her hero name is Vine, and she’s a demurring character. Her quirk fits in nicely with her hero name however, as with Vines she can grow as many of the plant/hair hybrid as she pleases. And she has complete control of them once grown.

3 Setsuna Tokage

Setsuna Tokage, aka Lizardy, is a chatty and happy member of her class. Most notably, Setsuna doesn’t seem to have any problems with Class 1-A. She’s also one of the few U.A. Students who got in by recommendations. Her quirk is Lizard Tail Splitter, and that means she can split her body into about fifty pieces. It sounds gross, but it is effective.

2 Neito Monoma

Neito Monoma is basically the jerk of Class 1-B, but he’s kind of earned it. He’s extremely smart, and his quirk, Copy, allows him to copy almost any quirk that he’s come in contact with (for a limited period of time).

1 Itsuka Kendo

Itsuka Kendo is one of the characters we’ve seen the most from Class 1-B She’s the class representative (much like Iida) and thus it’s her problem to reign them in when they’re going insane (again, looking at you, Monoma).

Itsuka is both brilliant and caring. She’ll prioritize the care of others, and actively wants to see the rest of her classmates succeed. She’s also extremely intelligent, which is one of the reasons she’s come as far as she has with her quirk. Her quirk is Big Fist, meaning that she can make her fists become enormous. Thankfully they also become a lot stronger.
