My Hero Academia Vigilantes Upgrades Star and Stripes Final Form

Warning: contains spoilers for My Hero Academia Vigilantes chapter 115!

The ending of My Hero Academia Vigilantes is within sight, but the series’ major villain has one last trick up his sleeve – and it’s putting Star and Stripe’s most epic move to shame.

The final battle between Koichi (aka the Crawler) and Number Six has been through a lot of stages, and the artificial being Six has had no shortage of new quirks to unveil. Previously, Six had used a “Crawler Style” technique, emulating Koichi’s abilities, as well as a “Sniper Style,” where he turned himself into a sniper’s perch by molding metal into his body and anchoring himself to the roof. In the last chapter, Number Six pulled out one last-ditch trick, “Lightning Style,” where he detonated the bomber quirk cells within his body and became a being of pure energy – a decision from which there was no coming back. Now, it turns out there was one more stage left to reach: Destruction Style.

Six’s “Destruction Style” takes advantage of the remaining bomber-quirk Nomu, causing them to detonate as well and adding their energy to his own body. The result is to create a massive giant made of fire, piloted by a burning skeleton that represents the last of Six’s physical body. Because it’s simply plasma and energy, the enormous fire body can move at high speeds, and Koichi ends up taking more damage from this form than he did in the entire rest of the fight. Even the observing All For One is impressed by the ruthless, self-destructive power at work.

The Destruction Style technique bears a striking resemblance to the super move employed by America’s #1 hero, Star and Stripe. While battling Shigaraki, Star and Stripe used her quirk to create an enormous construct made out of the air around her, which copied her movements to devastating effect. Six’s Destruction Style also takes on a humanoid appearance that looks a bit like All Might, complete with the tufts of hair sticking up – a trait that Star and Stripe’s air construct shares, since it’s based on her own look, which is in turn based on All Might’s. But while Star and Stripe’s giant was mere air, the fiery nature of Six’s construct adds a whole new layer of danger to the technique. And although Star’s giant seems to have been larger, it didn’t manage to inflict anywhere near as much damage on Shigaraki.

Having villains whose powers are a dark reflection of that of the heroes is something that My Hero Academia loves to do, right from the very beginning with All For One and One For All. Building that contrast across the main series and the Vigilantes spin-off has offered some interesting insight into how very different characters can make use of similar powers, emphasizing just how much of an impact imagination can have on their viability. Utilizing this brutal version of Star and Stripe’s epic air form, Six may finally have become too much for Koichi to handle, even if it cost him his life to do it, so now it’s all coming down to whether All Might can make it in time in upcoming chapters of My Hero Academia Vigilantes.
