Mythbusters is a legendary show with lots of people, full of great moments (and explosions. Oh so many explosions). The show ran for fourteen seasons on Discovery, producing almost three hundred episodes. Not everything can be perfect, and the show had its fair share of busts.

The enduring success of the show is reflected in its high scores on IMDb. The highest-rated episode by fans currently ranks at 8.8 while the lowest is… lower. Here are the ten worst episodes from Mythbusters, according to their IMDb ranking.

10 Jawsome Shark Special – 6.2

For reasons no one can really pin down at the moment, Shark Week became a huge phenomenon and like everyone else, Mythbusters tried to ride that wave. This led to this episode, which was actually a compilation of twenty-five of their best moments involving sharks.

Some of these included trying to bust myths associated with the movie Jaws (like whether or not blowing the shark up by shooting a scuba tank in its mouth is possible). The compilation format didn’t prove popular with fans, judging by their ubiquity on this list.

9 Location, Location, Location – 6.2

Continuing the compilation theme – strap in, it’s going to be a long ride – is this episode that revisits some of the most interesting locations the Mythbusters team visited to that point in the show. The show was generally based out of San Francisco and southern California, but they ranged quite a bit depending on the needs for a myth.

The highlights included in this episode included trips to the White House, the Sierra Nevada mountains, and a bomb testing range.

8 Buster’s Cut Duct Tape Hour 2 – 6.2

The show achieved great ratings success with the simple, practical substance known as duct tape. They even had an entire episode devoted to whether someone could survive Survivor-style on an island called, shockingly, “Duct Tape Island.”

There were a lot of outtakes from those shows though, and they form the basis of this episode. Apparently, there was a ton of footage because this was actually the second such compilation show surrounding duct tape, but the low score indicates fans had maybe had enough of this oddly specific gimmick.

7 Buster’s Cut Bottle Bash – 6.2

Another way the show kept things going during its zenith involved re-releasing new cuts of old episodes. Instead of the Snyder Cut, fans got the Buster Cut. These shows feature longer or different takes on myths and segments that had already been shown.

This particular episode featured a myth on a bar-fight, digging deep to answer the age-old question of whether being hit on the head with an empty bottle was worse than being hit with a full one. Answer: it sucks either way.

6 Zombie Special – 6.1

Zombies never seem to go out of style, and the show covered the many myths around the undead in this special episode from 2013. The episode featured Michael Rooker from The Walking Dead as the team tested a variety of myths, including whether dead people retained the strength to knock down doors.

Despite the enduring popularity of zombies, this particular episode didn’t fare too well with fans of Mythbusters, perhaps indicating they preferred myths that had at least some inherent plausibility and not one based on pure (nightmarish) fantasy.

5 Explosions A to Z – 6.1

The cornerstone of any Mythbusters episode is without a doubt the explosion. Myths may be confirmed, they may be busted, but something will always explode. This compilation episode gave fans wall-to-wall explosive events from before 2012.

752 different explosions went off in the episode, including the Red Bazooka rocket grenade launcher, various unfortunate appliances, and the infamous cement truck the team destroyed disproving a myth from the original MacGyver.

4 Green Hornet Special – 6

The zombie episode showed that the series increasingly got into media tie-ins as its popularity increased. Whether this was a good or bad thing is left entirely up to the fans. One such special was devoted to The Green Hornet reboot that starred Seth Rogen. Fans didn’t take to it too well, considering the score. That was too bad because the team did some cool things with the Hornet’s classic car, Black Beauty.

The show did a lot of specials devoted entirely to movies and TV shows, such as Star Wars, which was natural as both Adam Savage and Grant Imahara worked for Industrial Lights and Magic (ILM), the visual effects studio that’s best known for its work in a galaxy far, far away.

3 Buster’s Cut Knock Your Socks Off – 5.9

This Buster’s Cut of an episode from 2009 included longer takes on an age-old myth – well, at least an adage. Can someone really knock someone else out of their socks? Usually, this is something out of a Looney Tunes cartoon and true to form, the team busted it hard.

Perhaps the obviousness of the myth’s outcome or just fatigue with warmed-over episodes was catching up with the show at this point. Fans consistently rated the show low, bringing it into a three-way tie for the worst rank from its legendary run.

2 Busters Cut Alcohol Myths – 5.9

Another Buster’s Cut edition of a previous episode, “Alcohol Myths” tackled some urban legends that didn’t seem to resonate with fans. This version of the episode offered extended looks into whether or not drinking more alcohol makes another person more beautiful.

Also tested: drinking coffee sobers someone up (nope), exercise does (yep), and slapping someone in the face does too (plausible). Fans had maybe seen enough the first time though, leading to one of the lowest scores for the series overall.

1 Buster’s Cut Viewer Special Threequel – 5.9

Bringing up the rear for the lowest-rated episodes on IMDb is this special, which combines some of the most consistent themes among the least favorite shows. It’s a compilation (check), it’s a sequel (check), and it didn’t feature the greatest myths (check).

Among the segments included in the episode were whether St. Bernard dogs carry casks of brandy because potentially they’ll cure someone of hypothermia (nope). This one rests at the bottom, but the entire series is legendary and well worth a re-watch.
