There isn’t much worse than playing as a point guard with a terrible team in NBA 2K22. Even with maximum level dimer badgers, a poor team will clank wide-open shots or pass the rock right back, defeating the point of the pass. Point guards who try to score themselves will often find that defenders will double them up, knocking the rest of the team won’t take advantage of them.

So getting the team right is critical to the process of NBA2K22’s MyCareer. Thankfully, there are a few teams out there where the MyPlayer can flourish from the point guard spot, setting the stage for a long and illustrious career and many championships for a budding dynasty.

There isn’t any single team that makes a player go “Aha!” The selections all come with drawbacks. But this article isn’t meant to focus on the negative. Instead, it’s here to provide a buffet of ideas for point guards. Maybe they can pull a bad team across the finish line. Or maybe they’d like to wrestle the job away from a former All-Star. Whatever the reason, it felt like a good time to add a few more teams to this list. This update does exactly that, add more teams, as well as elaborates in greater detail about what to expect when joining each team’s squad.

What To Look For

The ideal team is one that has a glaring need at point guard while the other positions are somewhat secure. Players gain the starting job based on their OVR being higher than the position player in front of them on the depth chart. For example, a player will need to have a 97 to pass up Steph Curry on the Warriors.

That isn’t going to happen, even after several years, no matter how many real-life dollars players turn into VC. Unfortunately, only four teams have a point guard under 80 OVR and all of those teams have other glaring issues. New point guards are in a tough place this year, but these are the best places to consider in the current situation.

Boston Celtics

The Celtics only have two great players in Brown and Tatum, but at least the team doesn’t have a glaring weakness. Of all five teams, this is the one that will get the MyPlayer the starting job the fastest, it’s just a matter of working with Smart and Horford.

Los Angeles Clippers

Replacing Reggie Jackson will be pretty easy and playing with George and Leonard (a small forward that immediately gives their team title considerations) means immediate title contention. Morris and Ibaka are less-than-stellar and can hinder the team on the interior, but they aren’t bottom feeders and good passing can cover up their weaknesses.

Indiana Pacers

Taking the starting job from an 82 will take a few extra weeks, but the Pacers have a solid team without anybody who will blow the game. Turner at center isn’t the greatest asset to the team, but Sabonis is one of the few extra-talented power forwards, the frontcourt should at least hold up well enough to give the guards and wings a chance at victory.

Utah Jazz

Wrestling the job away from Conley will take a while and there is Rudy Gay who doesn’t always hold his own at power forward, but the rest of the team is great. Thanks to Gobert, one of the best centers in the business, the Jazz are a great place for players who hate giving up points in the paint. And Donovan Mitchell is the perfect passing buddy with his electric offensive capabilities.

New York Knicks

The Knicks are, once again, only recommended for patient players as Kemba Walker and Derrick Rose are both guards here with an 83 OVR. But it should be smooth sailing once making it into the lineup. The only truly weak point is Fournier at shooting guard, but his three-point ball is rated as an A-, so he should be fine to at least shoot the ball well. Randle and Robinson are both lightfooted bigs, so they’ll clear up some space for one of the game’s flashy dunks.

New Orleans Pelicans

Nobody is going to mistake Nickeil Alexander-Walker for being one of the best shooting guards in the game. At 75, he’s tied for the lowest-ranked shooting guard to start. However, the other three positions are solid and Devonte Graham will be replaced by the MyPlayer quickly. For those who feel confident in either passing to the interior instead of the exterior or feel they can swing a trade for an upgrade, the supporting cast for the Pelicans interior is very strong.

Toronto Raptors

Khem Birch isn’t even tied for the worst center in the game. Ratings-wise, he’s the lowest at 76. So yes, he’ll be a problem. But this can be turned into an advantage, especially for taller point guards who enjoy helping out in the paint to grab rebounds and block shots. VanVleet is a nice option to pass to on the exterior here to help with assists. This is a good team for point guards looking to put up regular triple-doubles.
