Netflix The Best TV Shows & Movies This Weekend

Weekdays may be for working, but weekends are made for relaxing, so we’ve put together a collection of the best new and recent Netflix movies and TV shows for you to watch. The streaming service has been seriously amping up its original content, and by the end of 2018 Netflix Originals had overtaken acquired content for the first time. Netflix has also been attracting some star talent, including filmmakers like Steven Soderbergh and Martin Scorsese.

2019 has seen some major new additions to Netflix’s library of Originals, like comic book adaptation The Umbrella Academy, time-looping mystery series Russian Doll, and the darkly satirical horror movie Velvet Buzzsaw. This year also brings new seasons of existing Netflix shows that already have an eager fanbase, like The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and Stranger Things. Even if you’re a hardcore binge-watcher, it can be hard to keep up with all the new weekly releases.

That’s why we’re here to help, with a guide to all the new Netflix Original releases this weekend, and the best TV shows and movies from recent weeks that are worth checking out if you missed them.

Wu Assassins – The Raid’s Iko Uwais stars in this new martial arts series as Kai Jin, a humble chef who one day discovers that he’s actually a chosen one imbued with supernatural gifts, elite fighting skills, and an important destiny. If you’re missing Marvel’s Netflix series like Daredevil and Iron Fist, or just looking for a new fantasy binge-watch, Wu Assassins could be the show for you.

GLOW Season 3 – The Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling head to Las Vegas in season 3 of GLOW, which stars Alison Brie and Betty Gilpin among its cast of professional wrestlers, and Marc Maron as the beleaguered director of the show. Perfect for Netflix viewers who love ’80s nostalgia and larger-than-life characters.

Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling – Nickelodeon’s anxious cartoon wallaby Rocko returns, along with his close friends Heffer and Filburt, in this one-hour special that picks up 20 years after the end of the animated series. After 20 years stranded in space, Rocko and co. return to Earth to find O-Town has joined the 21st century and is almost unrecognizable – much to Rocko’s chagrin.

Stranger Things Season 3 – Just when you thought it was safe to cycle through the streets of Hawkins, Indiana, the Mind Flayer returns with a vengeance in the third season of sci-fi/horror/adventure series Stranger Things. There’s plenty more ’80s nostalgia as the gang encounter a secret underground Russian laboratory and explore Hawkins’ newest attraction, the Starcourt Mall.

Queer Eye Season 4 – The Fab Five return to makeover the looks and lives of specially nominated “Heroes,” in the fourth season of Netflix’s beloved revival of the classic reality show.

I Am Mother – This critically-acclaimed sci-fi thriller takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where an android has been tasked with watching over thousands of human embryos. Mother gestates one of the embryos and raises the girl as her daughter. However, when Daughter reaches her teens she encounters a human being from the outside world – an outside world that it supposed to be completely toxic and uninhabitable. As tensions rise, she has to figure out who is lying to her… and why.
