New Ghost Of Tsushima Mechanics The Iki Island Expansion Introduces

The Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut has brought the Iki Island expansion to the game. Iki Island adds plenty of new content and mechanics to Ghost of Tsushima, including enemy types, techniques, and traversal methods.

Unfortunately, there is no new Ghost Stance for Jin, despite speculation from fans and alleged leaks. Sucker Punch could theoretically add one in another DLC or a sequel, but for now, Jin is limited to the four stances from the base game. However, Ghost of Tsushima’s Iki Island expansion does introduce a new mechanic that will have players swapping Stances a lot more often than before.

Iki Island brings with it several new enemy types, including multi-weapon Mongol warriors that carry spears, shields, and dual swords. These enemies will quickly change weapons from one to another in the heat of the battle. To combat this, Jin is forced to swap between multiple Stances, such as going from the Wind Stance to the Water Stance or from the Water Stance to the Stone Stance, and so on.

Players will also encounter the new shaman and dual-bladed staff enemies. Shamans hold regular spears but stay on the outskirts of battle, chanting a tune to boost the surrounding Mongols’ defense, attack power, and aggressiveness. Shamans should be players’ first targets when entering a battle and can be located by the pulsating bubble of their chant. The dual-bladed staff wielders act like spearmen, but they are much more aggressive and have fewer openings for Jin to parry. This makes dodging the most viable option against them.

Ghost Of Tsushima: The Iki Island Expansion’s Other New Mechanics

Outside of new enemy types, the Ghost of Tsushima Iki Island expansion grants access a new technique utilizing Jin’s horse. While mounted, players can charge directly at enemy Mongols at the cost of Resolve, knocking them down and possibly even killing them for good. Players can upgrade this technique to use less Resolve, get a 10% chance to recover three Resolve upon hitting an enemy during a charge, and get a 25% chance to Terrify nearby enemies. The new Saki Horse Armor also allows Jin’s horse to take more hits before knocking him off, causes horse charge to deal 50% more damage and gives it a chance to one-shot Brutes, and gives the horse a bonus 10% chance to recover three Resolve when hitting enemies.

Another addition gives Jin’s grappling hook a new use: He can now hook onto objects like broken doors, raised bridges, or hanging log pallets scattered around the Iki islands to open new pathways for exploration. The final major new mechanics is one many players had been asking for since launch – a lock-on system. Many said they had trouble keeping the camera aligned when fighting enemies, so the lock-on system gives Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut players an easier way to keep track of opponents.
