Nick Lachey wrote off reality TV after starring in Newlyweds with ex-wife Jessica Simpson. The two were at the height of their fame when they ended their show, teaching fans that love doesn’t always have a fairytale ending.

In the summer of 2003, MTV aired Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, which starred Nick and his then-wife Jessica Simpson. The two originally met when Nick worked on one of Jessica’s music videos in 1999. The couple married in 2002, but in 2005 announced that they were divorcing. The reality show was one of the first of its kind to follow stars around their everyday life, giving us gems like Jessica’s infamous line, “Is this chicken or tuna?” The show won a People’s Choice Award for Favorite Reality Show in 2005 shortly before it was canceled.

Fans have been dying for a reboot, living the nostalgia of the late ’90s and early 2000s. But the 98 Degrees lead singer said the chances are slim to none. Obviously, he would not be doing a show with Jessica, but even his current wife, Vanessa Lachey has said she has no plans to star in a show that would follow her family around. The musician told US Weekly that the idea of a new show is not ‘in the cards’ for him. The ‘Give Me One More Night’ singer said he believed that with the rise of social media it has brought a new wave of reality and reality stars. Lachey went on to say he was happy for the time he had spent on the hit show, but he is really happy where he is in his life right now.

Jessica recently announced that her soon to be released memoir would include information about her time on the former reality show. The “Irresistible” singer said the book would cover topics ranging from her public divorce, being a business owner, and Newlyweds. Since her divorce, Jessica has married Eric Johnson and had three children with him – Maxwell, Ace, and Birdie. Lachey did make a brief comeback when he starred in a reality show with his brother Drew Lachey that documented their struggle to open a bar in their hometown. Lachey said that the show was more enjoyable for him because it avoided putting his family on television (not counting his brother).

Even though Lachey may have broken some hearts with the news of not wanting to return to TV, 98 Degree fans can still hold a little bit of hope that one day he may change his mind. After all, the singer did come out of hiding to appear on season 25 of Dancing With the Stars.
