Screen Rant has an exclusive clip from the upcoming film Night Raiders. The sci-fi film is written and directed by Saskatchewan-born Cree/Métis filmmaker Danis Goulet who received the TIFF Emerging Talent Award at the Toronto International Film Festival this year. Night Raiders premieres in theaters, digital, and On Demand on November 12. The film is currently available for pre-order on Apple TV+.

Set in the near future of 2043, Night Raiders tells the story of a post-war North America where a military occupation controls the cities. There is fighting over resources and at the age of 5 children become the property of the state. For years Niska (Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers) and her 11-year-old daughter Waseese (Brooklyn Letexier-Hart) have been hiding from the authorities, but soon they are caught and Niska is forced to give her daughter up. Niska crosses paths with the Night Raiders, an underground group of Cree vigilantes with the goal of rescuing the kidnapped children. Now Niska must work with this group if she has any hope of getting her daughter back.

Watch the exclusive clip from Night Raiders below. The tense scene gives an idea of the world of the film, with drones and unknown dangers. Waseese is clearly fearful and rightly so – as the drone they previously thought to be down comes whirring back to life. Watch the clip here:

Night Raiders is an Indigenous sci-fi film and the first Canadian/New Zealand Indigenous co-production. The film was executive produced by Taika Waititi who came onto the project in 2018 after being pitched by Goulet. Speaking about making her feature film debut in the new genre the director said:

The wave of Indigenous sci-fi/horror is here. People in our community have wanted access for so many years for the right to tell our stories. There were laws in Canada that outlawed our cultural expression so we’re entering a renaissance and the wave of genre is a part of that. It’s a really exciting time.
