Fake Spider-Man: No Way Home footage has been used by an Australian talk show, causing confusion online due to the fact it features three Spider-Men in action. Spider-Man: No Way Home is a multiversal adventure in which villains from earlier Spider-Man movies make their way into the MCU. Most viewers are expecting Tom Holland’s wall-crawler to partner with Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire’s incarnations of Spider-Man to beat the bad guys, despite continual denial from Garfield that he is in the Phase 4 film. The heavily rumored but unconfirmed appearance of Garfield and Maguire in Spider-Man: No Way Home has caused some frustration for marketers, who are aware that this would be a major draw.

Many fans have also theorized that a number of shots from Spider-Man: No Way Home’s trailers appear to have been edited to remove the additional Spider-Men. One of the most intriguing shots shows three former villains – Sandman, Electro, and the Lizard – apparently leaping towards Holland’s Spider-Man. However, both the width of the shot and the villains’ positions on-screen have prompted many to speculate that Electro and Lizard are jumping at different Spider-Men. The Brazilian version of the movie’s trailer went one step further, apparently showing Lizard being rocked by an invisible punch. Some YouTubers have even created fake versions of this shot, showing how they believe the other two Spider-Men would fit into it. Several of their modifications certainly make sense for the shot, but Garfield and Maguire’s appearance remains mere speculation.

All of this seems to have made a little too much sense for Australian talk show Studio 10, who drew on online footage to support interviews with Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Marisa Tomei while promoting Spider-Man: No Way Home. The producers (presumably unwittingly) resorted to a shot from Screen Culture’s modified trailer, showing three Spider-Men in battle against Lizard, Sandman, and Electro. It understandably caused some confusion among many viewers, who assumed this was real footage, but Studio 10 failed to remove the watermark, which can be seen at around the 2:08-2:09 timestamp in the video. Check it out below:

If Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield are indeed in Spider-Man: No Way Home, it will likely go down as one of the worst-kept secrets in Hollywood history. The actors’ cameos are so eagerly anticipated that the fan backlash to their absence would be intense. Given that context, it’s understandable that TV shows like Studio 10 would be looking for footage of the three Spider-Men in action — although it would frankly be wiser to resort to official trailer footage, thus avoiding fakes. Of course, there will be confirmation of the three Spider-Men over the next few days, as Spider-Man: No Way Home is set to release in theaters this week.

What does make this mistake more interesting, however, is the fact one of Studio 10’s reporters has seen the first 48 minutes of Spider-Man: No Way Home, and yet still clearly assumed there would be multiple incarnations of Spider-Man present. The interviewer even makes a reference to Garfield and Maguire, but has seemingly been told not to ask about it. Instead, the host talks about Nicholas Hammond’s Spider-Man from earlier TV movies. Needless to say, nobody is expecting Hammond’s web-slinger to appear in Spider-Man: No Way Home, but this gaffe will only increase the intense speculation around Garfield and Maguire’s potential appearances.
