Now Rockstar Has No Reason To Not Make GTA 6

The release of GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition has finally freed up Rockstar to focus on developing Grand Theft Auto 6, the long-anticipated sequel to 2013’s GTA 5. Rockstar has always taken its time with sequels, and GTA 6 is no exception. Red Dead Redemption’s sequel, RDR2, was released in 2018 to widespread acclaim – eight years after the launch of the original game. An eight year gap is fairly lengthy, although Rockstar did publish two other significant games within that time period in GTA 5 and L.A. Noire.

That said, GTA 5’s popularity is on an entirely different level to that of Red Dead’s, and fans have been eagerly awaiting a sequel to the game for close to a decade. Even so, Rockstar is yet to officially unveil GTA 6. The studio has instead focused on porting and upgrading GTA 5 to different consoles, a move that hasn’t been met with the most welcome of receptions from many GTA fans desperate to see a fully-fledged follow-up.

GTA 6 has an unprecedented level of anticipation, and with the GTA Trilogy finally released, it’s time for Rockstar to give the fans what they’ve been anticipating since 2013. While the GTA Trilogy was definitely a sizable undertaking, there’s reason to believe that it didn’t have a huge effect on GTA 6’s development. The game supposedly took two years to make, but it was outsourced to Grove Street Games, meaning Rockstar’s main studios could continue to work on GTA 6.

The GTA 5 Remaster Could Distract Rockstar From GTA 6

Even with the GTA Trilogy’s release, the remaster of Grand Theft Auto 5 for the PS5 and Xbox Series X could also be a reason behind GTA 6’s slow development. The current-gen upgrade of GTA 5 was recently delayed to March 2022, and Rockstar is likely devoting a decent amount of resources towards it considering the rocky release of the GTA Trilogy. However, barring a surprise GTA 4 remaster, Rockstar has practically run out of games in the GTA series to remaster. With GTA 5 likely nearing the end of its production, it’s time for the studio to deliver its most anticipated title yet: GTA 6.

Recent rumors regarding GTA 6 have claimed the game is experiencing a somewhat troubled production, which is the reason why there are so few details regarding the project. With access to current-gen hardware, GTA 6 will likely be even more ambitious than Red Dead Redemption 2, meaning that fans could be waiting a long time for it to finally be revealed. Even so, with the studio being finished with remakes (for the time being), Rockstar can finally focus its resources towards making Grand Theft Auto 6.
