One Piece has had a massive run. Now with the first 130 episodes available on Netflix, we look at the ten best of that collection according to IMDb!

To commemorate the announcement of the live action Netflix adaptation of One Piece, the first 130 episodes of the series are now available in the U.S, Canada, Australia and New Zealand on the streaming platform. For those new to the series, One Piece follows 17 year old Monkey D. Luffy as he puts together a pirate crew known as the Straw Hats Pirates and sets sail to the Grand Line in search of the treasure known as the One Piece.

The anime began in 1999 with no signs of slowing down. The Japanese dub of the series is well on its way to hitting 1000 episodes, making the first 130 a tip of the iceberg in the grand story. This is a list of the top ten episodes for these first 130, based on the user rating on IMDb.

10 Episode 90 – Hiriluk’s Cherry Blossoms! Miracle in the Drum Rockies! (8.2)

The first episode on this list is a decent way into a One Piece binge watch. Here we find Luffy trying to convince Chopper to join the crew as the ships Doctor. A frightened Chopper continues to give Luffy the slip and later explains he can’t be part of the crew because he is a monster.

Luffy tells Chopper to shut up and come with them regardless, which moves Chopper to tears as he has finally found real friends, people who aren’t afraid of him.

9 Episode 122 – Sand Croc and Water Luffy! The Second Round of the Duel! (8.2)

Nearing the end of the Alabasta arc, this episode sets up the final confrontation between Luffy and Crocodile in a few episodes time. Luffy engages in his second battle with Crocodile, using water to some success. Ultimately, Crocodile wins the second round by drying up the group.

Meanwhile, the B plot of the episode follows the rest of the Straw Hats racing to find the bomb before it detonates. Underground, Nico Robin forces the king to take her through the tomb where the Poneglyph is located.

8 Episode 130 – Scent of Danger! The Seventh Member is Nico Robin! (8.2)

The final episode of the Alabasta arc as well as the last episode currently available on Netflix. The Straw Hats manage to outrun the Marines to make their escape and it is revealed by Smoker how much their bounties have increased now.

Nico Robin appears from inside the cabin of the Going Merry and a flashback shows that Luffy saved her life, even though she was ready to die. With no where left to go, Robin joins the crew, explaining that Luffy’s crime was letting her live and this is the consequence.

7 Episode 94 – The Heroes Reunion! His Name is Fire Fist Ace! (8.3)

This episode introduces Luffy’s adopted brother, Portgas D. Ace AKA “Fire Fist” Ace who would become an integral character later in the show, until the series time jump. In the town of Nanohana Smoker encounters Ace, both of whom are searching for Luffy.

Whilst Smoker pursues Luffy, he questions his reasons for being Alabasta and Luffy explains he’s there to beat up Crocodile. Luffy manages to escape and encounters Ace, where he learns that Ace is now a devil fruit user.

6 Episode 119 – Secret of Powerful Swordplay! Ability to Cut Steel and the Rhythm Things Have! (8.3)

Zoro continues his battle against Mr. 1, with Zoro receiving heavy damage but Mr. 1 is unable to finish him off. Zoro explains that he is able to sense the rhythm of all things around him, which is why he could dodge all of Mr. 1’s attacks.

Zoro then proceeds to use one sword style and delivers a killing blow to Mr. 1. A victorious Zoro then collapses from exhaustion.

5 Episode 125 – (8.3) – Magnificent Wings! My Name is Pell, Guardian Deity of the Country!

As Luffy continues his battle against Crocodile, whilst the Straw Hats form a plan to retrieve the bomb from the clock tower. Chopper manages to launch Vivi high enough for her to reach the tower in time and cut the rope linked to the bomb.

However, the bomb inside the canon is revealed to be a time bomb with a 5km radius. Pell arrives in the clock tower and carries the bomb into the sky. The episode ends with Pell soaring high into the sky and the bomb finally goes off.

4 Episode 19 – The Three-Sword Style’s Past! Zoro and Kuina’s Vow! (8.4)

In this flashback episode, a child Zoro challenges the owner of a local dojo, who offers his daughter Kuina, to be the opponent instead. After Zoro loses and decides to join the dojo, vowing to beat Kuina one day.

Zoro trains for an unspecified amount of time, developing his skills and beating other members of the dojo. Zoro loses to Kuina again in there rematch but the two bond later on. Not long after this, Zoro learns that Kuina fell and died whilst searching for her katana in the storage room. Zoro vows to keep the promise he made to her, that he would become the world’s greatest swordsman.

3 Episode 111 – Dash For a Miracle! Alabasta Animal Land! (8.4)

Following their first battle, Luffy is in critical condition from his injuries. Crocodile leaves the scene, believing Luffy has finished but he is ultimately saved by none other than Nico Robin.

Meanwhile, the rest of the crew are traveling on the desert crab Hasami across the sea. Hasami ends up sinking and the Straw Hats are saved Kung-Fu Dugongs, whom after an earlier encounter, view Luffy as their master and obey his will.

2 Episode 37 – Luffy Rises! Result of the Broken Promise! (8.4)

This episode features the famous ‘Walk to Arlong Park’ scene in its few minutes, which fans would remember fondly. The marines arrive at Nami’s house, and search for the treasure she has spent years collecting to buy back her islands freedom.

Genzo explains to the village that Arlong never planned to keep his promise to Nami. Arlong then threatens Nami, telling her that if she ever tries to escape, he will kill the entire village. A broken down Nami finally asks Luffy for help, to which he agrees and gathers the crew, heading to Arlong Park.

1 Episode 24 – Everyone’s Gathered! Usopp Speaks the Truth About Nami! (8.5)

Johnny the bounty hunter informs the Straw Hats that he witness Nami killing Ussop but they don’t believe him. Nami arrives to confirm that she did kill Ussop and tells them to leave the island before Arlong kills them. Luffy refuses and decides to take a nap, which angers Nami.

At Arlong Park, the Marines attack Arlong with a cannonball, so he sends out three of the Fish Man pirates to destroy the warship. Back on the shore, Nami breaks into her sister’s house, upon her return the two reminisce about Nami’s time with the Straw Hats.
