Netflix has officially renewed Outer Banks for a third season following the positive reception of the teen drama’s second season in July.

Netflix confirms the renewal of Outer Banks season 3. The teen drama from Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke made its debut on Netflix in 2020, with a second season premiering in July of this year. Based in a North Carolina coastal town where a stark class divide exists, Outer Banks follows a group of lower-class teens (Pogues) and their upper-class rivals (Kooks) as they go head-to-head in a search for hidden treasure. All 20 episodes of the series are currently available to stream on Netflix.

Announcing news of the renewal over Twitter, Netflix released a short video starring a number of Outer Banks cast members. “This just in from Poguelandia…” reads the post. “Outer Banks will be back for a third season!” Though no new information on the upcoming season was shared, the cast appeared suitably thrilled by the news, cheering and leaping into a pool. Among the stars returning for the third season are Chase Stokes, Madison Bailey, Austin North, Madelyn Cline, Jonathan Daviss, Rudy Pankow, Drew Starkey, and Charles Esten. Also reportedly returning is Carlacia Grant, who will enter the new season as a regular after the success of season 2. Outer Banks was highly praised upon its debut in 2020, holding the top television spot on Netflix for several weeks. The show also topped the Nielsen ratings in the US, recording 2.1 billion minutes of viewing time. A production timeline and release date for season 3 have yet to be revealed by Netflix.
