Paranormal Activity 7 Will Release In Time For Halloween

Paramount is reportedly releasing Paranormal Activity 7 in time for Halloween. Originally scheduled to release in March of 2021, the next movie in the horror franchise was pushed back to the end of the year due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Additionally, because of the pandemic, the film will skip a theatrical release and head straight to the Paramount+ streaming service.

Announced back in June of 2019, Paranormal Activity 7 is the seventh movie in the franchise, which also includes a spin-off film, Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones, released back in 2014. After premiering a new film consecutively every October from 2010 to 2012, the studio gave the Paranormal Activity franchise one last shot in 2015 with the sixth installment titled Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension. The film proved to be the lowest-grossing in the series. Despite the franchise’s declining financial performance, however, it seems Paramount is set on reviving the series with its latest Paranormal Activity installment.

Deadline reports that Paramount and Blumhouse Productions are releasing Paranormal Activity 7 in time for Halloween this year. The film, which is directed by William Eubank (Underwater), is one of three to four installments Paramount plans to bring to the streaming service each year. The Chief Programming Officer for ViacomCBS Streaming, Tanya Giles, offered up the following statement concerning the latest film’s Halloween release date:

“A new Paranormal Activity from Paramount Players should bring fans an unexpected reimagining of the beloved horror franchise. We’ll also be launching a documentary on the making of the Paranormal Activity feature. Both of which will be coming to the service in time for Halloween.”

While the plot of Paranormal Activity 7 is currently unknown, Giles also announced the studio’s plans to release a separate documentary alongside the film’s release to Paramount+, which will also arrive in time for Halloween. The documentary will dive into the making of the feature, which is currently set to star four new Paranormal Activity cast members, including Emily Bader, Dan Lippert, Henry Ayres-Brown and Roland Buck II. Written by Christopher Landon, who is also acting as executive producer alongside Steven Schneider, the seventh film in the horror series is produced by Blumhouse’s Jason Blum and Oren Peli, who created the original 2007 Paranormal Activity movie.

Nearly ten years after The Blair Witch Project brought the ‘found footage’ format to the horror genre, the original Paranormal Activity utilized similar filmmaking methods to scare a brand-new set of audiences. Based on the declining performances of the sequels, it became apparent that the general public were growing tired of the same old techniques. Though it’s been six years since the last film in the franchise was released, it will be interesting to see how audiences take to the upcoming Paranormal Activity 7. However, given its Halloween specific release date, accompanying documentary, and ease of streaming from home, it may spark a new set of fans.
