Parkasaurus Review The Perfect Prehistoric Park Sim

Parkasaurus is a cute and quirky take on classic park management simulator games, like Zoo Tycoon, but puts its own original spin on the genre. Dinosaurs from another world crash land on Earth and instantly begin teaching humans how to run successful Dinosaur Parks. The player then journeys around the world with the help of their new dino friends to improve tourism one park at a time.

Park sims can have overwhelming amounts of depth leaving new players feeling lost or confused when their parks fail to perform well. Parkasaurus does a great job right away from explaining the game’s mechanics and introducing players to new concepts. The game maintains the same level of depth as traditional park simulators but offers an extremely user-friendly experience from the moment the dinosaurs touch down on Earth.

Aside from how easy it is to become acquainted with Parkasaurus’ UI and mechanics, the game is quite enjoyable to look at. The cartoony graphics let players know upfront that the game doesn’t take itself too seriously. The design of each dinosaur is goofy while still being recognizable as whatever species it is supposed to be. The visual experience of Parkasaurus is just as charming as the actual gameplay.

While looking quite silly, Parkasaurus has a lot of depth in terms of gameplay. Players have to manage the health and happiness of their dinosaurs while ensuring that their park is a successfully run business. Each dinosaur has its own unique needs including dietary, habitat, and social necessities that affect the dinos’ health and happiness. Some of the dino needs have to be sacrificed in order to maintain the patrons’ interest in the park, but too much stress on a dinosaur could cost a visitor their life. Finding the balance between appeasing dinosaurs and patrons is only one aspect of Parkasaurus.

Seeing as dinosaurs aren’t as abundant in the wilderness as other animals, players have to put in a bit of effort to grow their prehistoric population. Players can send their park employees on excavation missions to dig up fossils, footprints, currency, and hats that can be used to craft a dinosaur egg. There are plenty of features in the game to accomplish, but there is also something for the player to be doing. While waiting for the team to reach the excavation site, players can work on building or upgrading a habitat. While scientists are generating more science points, players can manually dig up new fossils. While waiting for an egg to hatch, players can build new paths and decorate their parks to increase the park’s notoriety. There is rarely an occasion where the players feel as if they have nothing to do.

Parkasaurus comes with two game modes: World Map and Customize. World Map is a campaign mode where players are given different venues to improve. Each venue has challenges that need to be surmounted in order to gain enough rocket parts to unlock the next continent. This offers players a more traditional park sim experience by challenging players to overcome different obstacles. Customize allows players to build their own dream park with the game’s regular settings or in a sandbox mode.

Parkasaurus has quite a bit of creative wiggle room. There is a large number of buildings, walkways, and decorations to choose from for players to customize their park. The terrain tool allows the players to terraform their park however they see fit. Each exhibit can be carefully crafted to be its own unique isolated biome. Dinosaurs and park employees can wear funny hats that not only give that character personality but also boosts their stats. The level at which Parkasaurus lets the player customize makes seach park feel like a brand new experience.

All in all, Parkasaurus is a pretty great park sim that offers players a fun and unique experience. While it may not be a game everyone can play for hours on end, the level of creativity it offer players along with its extensive gameplay mechanics and gorgeous cartoony art-style is enough to keep anyone entertained for a few hours. But for park sim enthusiasts, Parkasaurus is a must play.
