Parks & Rec ran for seven seasons on NBC but the first season and a half were kind of duds. Things kicked into high gear at the end of season two with the arrival of Ben Wyatt and Chris Traeger. This pair of state auditors had been traveling Indiana for years, becoming close friends in the process.

Pawnee proved to be the end of their travels together when Ben married Leslie and Chris entered into a long term relationship with Anne. But that wasn’t the only thing that changed. Ben formed a bond with Andy that may have actually become more important than his one with Chris.

10 CHRIS TRAEGER: Years On The Road

As state auditors, Chris and Ben traveled all over Indiana during the several years that they worked together. Their jobs were to go to communities that were in financial distress, even on the verge of going bankrupt, and help them get back in the black.

That’s the reason they ended up in Pawnee. All of those years on the road together forged a connection that lasted throughout their time in Pawnee together and after Chris left with Anne.

9 ANDY DWYER: Lived Together

While Chris and Ben shared the road together, Andy and Ben shared a home together. Once it became clear that he was going to be staying in Pawnee, Ben decided he needed to find a more permanent dwelling than the motel he had spent a few months in.

Fortunately for him, April and Andy were looking for a roommate at that time. Ben moving in worked out well as they needed adult supervision and guidance. Sharing a home with Andy gave Ben insights into him that few others had.

8 CHRIS TRAEGER: Similar Professions

While they were very different people, Ben and Chris bonded over their mutual profession as state auditors. But beyond that, they were actually extremely different people. Chris was obsessed with his health, which included being a vegetarian, taking a lot of supplements, and exercising perpetually.

Ben, on the other hand, was a full-on geek who was devoted to a number of nerdy topics. Their profession brought them together, giving them a chance to build a bond greater than the sum of their individual parts.

7 ANDY DWYER: Charity Work

Ben went through a surprising number of career changes during the course of Parks & Rec. One of those moves found him working for Sweetums running their charity division. In reality, the charity was more about covering up Sweetums’ various environmental disasters and controversies than helping people.

While he worked there, he brought Andy on board and they did a lot of good together. They even took one of their charity music programs all the way to England.

6 CHRIS TRAEGER: Moved to Pawnee

The decision to stay in Pawnee was a lot easier than you might think. After years on the road, both Ben and Chris realized that they found a home in this one specific town. Ben realized it first, deciding to stay behind when Chris returned to Indiana and his job.

But Chris also quickly found his way back when the Mayor offered him the job as the new City Manager. Both men found their futures in Pawnee, even though they eventually moved on separately.

5 ANDY DWYER: Moved To Washington

Towards the end of the series, both Leslie and Ben started following career paths that took them away from Pawnee, leading them both to Washington, D.C. Given their respective political aspirations, that didn’t really come as a shock.

What was a surprise was that April’s life actually took her and Andy to Washington around the same time. This furthered the bond between Andy and Ben as their families and lives grew in unison.

4 CHRIS TRAEGER: Anne Perkins

No one takes up more space in Leslie’s heart than Anne Perkins, not even Ben. April might be the only person who comes close, which actually kind of makes you wonder where Ben fits in those rankings.

While their journey there was a tumultuous one at best, Chris and Anne eventually found each other. That played a factor in Chris and Ben’s relationship. Two best friends being in long term relationships with two best friends is a huge connection.

3 ANDY DWYER: April Ludgate

In addition to Anne, Leslie was incredibly close with April, a difficult feat since Ludgate was constantly trying to give people dead raccoons or boxes of garbage. But Ben’s relationship with April was much deeper than the one he had with Anne.

Ben and April spent months in Washington together, working on a re-election campaign. They were also roommates in Pawnee. Their connection was also quite strong, independent of their spouses, though it still played a huge part in his friendship with Andy.

2 CHRIS TRAEGER: Best Man

When Ben finally married Leslie, a moment everyone saw coming for years, Chris was the best man and he was the right choice. Keeping in mind that Chris was the one who actually persecuted Leslie and Ben’s relationship as they were employee and supervisor when it started, he still supported them.

Work Chris did what he had to do but Friend Chris supported them fully. That’s why he stood with Ben on his wedding day.

1 ANDY DWYER: Always There

Andy has a lot of interesting personality quirks, some of which could make him difficult to work and/or live with. But his greatest quality was his loyalty. Once you became one of Andy’s friends, he was forever by your side.

In the case of Ben, their bond became more like brothers than friends, which was tested on many occasions. Still, there was no one on Parks & Rec more loyal to Ben than Andy.
