Peaky Blinders Season 6 The Ghosts That Could Haunt Tommy (And Why)

Peaky Blinders’ Tommy Shelby has seen many deaths over the series’ five seasons, but which ghosts might resurface to haunt him through Peaky Blinders season 6 and the upcoming movie? Directed by Steven Knight, the gritty, murderous show has won a slew of awards since its start in 2014 and has gained popularity with each season. Intending to end the series with the onset of World War II, Knight planned to conclude Peaky Blinders with season 7, but it was recently announced that a Peaky Blinders movie will end Thomas Shelby’s story.

Peaky Blinders season 5 opened with the stock market crash of 1929 and the Shelby family losing much of the fortune Tommy (played by Cillian Murphy) had built for them. Tommy recovers by returning to the family’s roots in illegal business with a plan to recover the family’s wealth in the opium trade. Tommy, however, spends much of the season hooked on his own product, with his mental state deteriorating over time.

Peaky Blinders has a history with curses, séances, and spirits and director Steven Knight has said that Peaky Blinders season 6 will continue to explore the supernatural. Does this mean that more of Tommy’s ghosts may come back to haunt him? Here is every character who could haunt Tommy Shelby in Peaky Blinders season 6 and the following movie.

Danny Whizz-Bang

Peaky Blinders Season 6 The Ghosts That Could Haunt Tommy (And Why)

Played by Samuel Edward-Cook, Danny saved Tommy’s life in the tunnels of France. Danny suffered PTSD and violent psychotic episodes following their return from France and killed a man as a result. To save Danny when the Italians seek retribution, Tommy fakes Danny’s death and sends him to London on business, but Danny returns to Birmingham to fight alongside Tommy in the shoot-out with Billy Kimber and, when Kimber shoots Tommy, Danny shields Tommy and dies.

Vicente Changretta

Peaky Blinders Season 6 The Ghosts That Could Haunt Tommy (And Why)

The father of Luca and Angel, Vicente meets with John and Arthur after his son Angel’s restaurant is burned. A great war is started after John insults Vicente and his family and results in Angel Changretta’s death and Grace’s assassination. Following Grace’s murder, Tommy captures Vicente and plans to torture him, but Arthur shoots Vicente and kills him out of mercy. Vicente’s death ignites the vendetta between Tommy and Adrien Brody’s Luca Changretta and brings about multiple deaths in Peaky Blinders.

Arthur Shelby Sr.

Peaky Blinders Season 6 The Ghosts That Could Haunt Tommy (And Why)

Father to Arthur Jr., Tommy, John, Ada, and Finn. Arthur Sr. abandoned his family with Polly and is gone from their lives until he resurfaces in season 1. He wins over Arthur Jr. and convinces him to invest in a casino with him then disappears with the money. At the beginning of season 3, the Shelby brothers learn of their father’s death following a bar fight and the letter claims he begged their forgiveness. While Tommy has no remorse or sympathy for his father, it may be that Arthur Sr. haunts Tommy to give viewers a better idea of what Tommy’s childhood was like.

Aunt Polly

Peaky Blinders Season 6 The Ghosts That Could Haunt Tommy (And Why)

After the sad death of actress Helen McCrory in April of this year, Aunt Polly’s role in Peaky Blinders season 6 is unclear, but it is nearly impossible to think of the show carrying on without her. Polly is Tommy’s aunt and Michael’s mother and she is an incredibly important character on the show. Flawed and flawless, powerful and fragile, Helen McCrory’s Aunt Polly acted as a mother, friend, and confidant to Tommy (and everyone else) from the very beginning. It is not clear how the show will integrate the irreplaceable actress’s passing. As Peaky Blinders season 6 began filming in January of this year, there is a chance that some footage was captured before McCrory’s passing. Polly Gray’s character had strong ties to the family’s Romani heritage and frequently experimented with contacting spirits so it would make sense for her character to visit Tommy from beyond, however, giving Aunt Polly’s character peace in death may prove a better choice, especially given the real-life passing of McCrory.

Grace Shelby

Peaky Blinders Season 6 The Ghosts That Could Haunt Tommy (And Why)

Peaky Blinders season 6 will likely see the continuation of Tommy’s deceased wife, Grace (played by Annabelle Wallis), beckoning him to join her in death. An undercover agent acting as a barmaid at the Garrison pub, Grace fell in love with Tommy while on a mission to get close to him and their romance fell apart when he learned her true identity. Tommy and Grace come back together in season 2, after the American man she has married commits suicide, and they begin a life together raising their son, Charles. She is killed by a bullet meant for Tommy from the Changretta feud.

John Shelby

Peaky Blinders Season 6 The Ghosts That Could Haunt Tommy (And Why)

John Shelby (played by Gangs of London’s Joe Cole) is Tommy and Arthur’s younger, more impulsive brother. He is killed in season 3 after receiving a Black Hand in the Changretta feud. Tommy was the one who orchestrated John’s marriage to Esme in season 1 and has defended his impulsive nature throughout the series. John looked up to Tommy and, though John was the one to initially insult Vicente and spark the fire that would ignite the war between the Shelbys and the Changrettas, Tommy undoubtedly feels he should have been able to save his younger brother.

Aberama Gold

Though Tommy gives his blessing to Aberama Gold (played by Game of Thrones’s notorious “Littlefinger” actor Aidan Gillen) and Polly’s engagement in season 5, there is still some terrible history between Aberama and Tommy. Aberama’s only son, Bonnie, was killed by the Billy Boys to send a message to Tommy and the Shelbys and, though Arthur saved Aberama from another ambush by the Billy Boys on Tommy’s orders, Aberama was killed in Peaky Blinders season 5 trying to avenge his son’s death. It is likely that Aberama still blames Tommy for Bonnie’s death and his own and viewers may see his ghost return to haunt Tommy’s last years in Peaky Blinders’ final season and movie.
