Peggy Carter is getting her own Marvel Comics limited series as the super soldier hero Captain Carter with an all-new adventure and upgraded costume!

Peggy Carter is Getting A Marvel Comic Series (and New Costume)

As teased by Marvel in a social media post on December 9, it has been officially announced that Peggy Carter is getting her own Marvel Comics series along with an all-new costume. While the comic adventures of the previously established Peggy Carter of Earth-616 are well worth exploring, this iteration will play off of the version of Agent Carter fans recently saw in the Disney+ series What If…?. In the animated series, Carter was given the super soldier serum instead of Steve Rogers, transforming her from super spy to the superhero Captain Carter. While the animated series mostly showed the adventures of Captain Carter as they happened in the past, the new comics series will bring the character to the present day where all-new missions and conflicts will await her.

The writer behind the five-issue limited series is no stranger to Marvel Comics continuity, and certainly no stranger to the epic heroines that make up the comic universe. Jamie McKelvie will be at the helm of the new Captain Carter series, a writer and artist who previously worked on Captain Marvel and Young Avengers, plus the multifaceted comic creator will also be behind the artwork for both the cover and a variant cover of the first issue. The artist and creative partner to McKelvie is Marika Cresto who is best known for her recent work on Star Wars: Doctor Aphra.

“I’m as big a fan of the Captain Carter we’ve seen onscreen as anybody, so I jumped at the chance to create our own version,” said McKelvie in an interview released by Marvel along with the official announcement of Captain Carter. “I’m having a great time exploring what it would be like for Peggy to wake up nearly 80 years after the end of the war.” Captain Carter becomes a soldier out of time, unsure of how to adapt to the modern age with everything around her being incredibly more advanced, including villainy. While McKelvie expresses his excitement in writing the new story, the writer is also ecstatic about the artwork fans will get to see, “I can’t wait for people to see Marika’s pages – there’s so much life and energy to Peggy and the rest of the cast, and the action scenes are stunning”.

Those impressively drawn pages will depict Captain Carter as she tries to adapt to a world that is completely unfamiliar to her. Since she received the super soldier serum instead of Steve Rogers back during World War II, Captain Carter became a legend to the world around her. When she wakes up 80 years in the future after being frozen in ice, those legends of her don’t feel like legends at all as to her those events just happened. Adapting to the modern world won’t be the only obstacle, however, as a mysterious villain is gunning for her, and Captain Carter will have to figure out who those villainous figures are before it’s too late.

The announcement of the Captain Carter limited series is not only teasing an all-new exciting adventure, but an all-new costume for the titular character. Captain Carter’s super soldier suit depicts the iconic Union Jack off-center on the hero’s torso rather than right in the middle as fans will remember from her depiction in What If…?. The suit appears to not be weighted down with armor, instead being more of a tactical costume with a sleek design perfect for speed and agility. Fans will get to see Peggy Carter sporting this new suit in the action-packed Marvel Comics limited series Captain Carter, with the first issue available March 9, 2022.
