Persona What Day The 25th Anniversary Actually Is

The 25th anniversary of the Persona series is almost here and it seems Atlus has lots of announcements in store for fans of the series. Atlus and Sega have made a lot of statements about embracing Persona as a global franchise, but the companies have yet to truly embrace multiplatform or simultaneous international releases. However, announcements for the 25th Anniversary may change that.

The first entry in the Persona series was Revelations: Persona for the original PlayStation. This game is barely recognizable as a Persona game and is more akin to a Shin Megami Tensei title, as it’s a spin-off of that franchise. The first entry in the series that helped create the Persona gameplay loop was Persona 3, which introduced the idea of matching the social lives of teenagers to the mechanics of dungeon crawling. The formula was refined in later entries, with Persona 5 often regarded as one of the best JRPGs of its generation, if not of all time.

There have been a number of big video game anniversaries in 2021, with some still to go. Some companies barely acknowledged the anniversaries of their games, but this won’t be the case with Persona. The 25th anniversary of the Persona franchise will take place on September 20, 2021. And Atlus has already promised that there are big things in store for the anniversary.

How Atlus Could Celebrate Persona’s 25th Anniversary

Atlus has lots in store for Persona in the near future, as can be seen on the official Persona 25th Anniversary website. There are seven announcements planned, with the first due to arrive in September. The last one is listed as Autumn 2022, while the remaining five all have “Coming Soon” written on them. This means that there are at least seven Persona projects in the works and at least one of them is going to be revealed this month.

This raises the question of what Persona projects are in the works. The obvious answer is Persona 6, as the series is due for a new entry, now that Persona 5 Royal has been out for a while. Console ports of Persona 4 Golden would be a big deal, as would a modern remaster of Persona 3. Atlus could respond to the many surveys it has sent out over the years and port Persona 5 to Nintendo Switch, and perhaps throw it on PC and Xbox at the same time.

Ports of the Persona Q games to modern systems would also be appreciated, as they’re still locked to the Nintendo 3DS. There have been lots of rumors about a new Persona Arena fighting game, with a focus on the Phantom Thieves, rather than the cast of Persona 4. Persona fans have a lot to be excited about, as it seems Atlus will be expanding the franchise in the future.
