A player of the recently-released Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl has discovered a glitch that allows users to not only clone Pokémon, but also their held items, essentially breaking the game. While not the first glitch to be found in Pokémon BDSP, it’s perhaps one of the most notable due to the potential impact it can have on gameplay.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl released last week and have been met with mixed reception from fans. While many have praised the remakes for staying true to the original Diamond and Pearl, released in 2006, others have taken issue with the art style, a lack of innovation, and numerous bugs and glitches. While many of these have been minor, some have been problematic for players, with multiple users finding themselves stuck in areas and needing to restart their consoles. Prior to their release, the Pokémon games were patched to fix various in-game issues, but it seems Nintendo still has some problems to solve before the titles are playable as intended.

As reported by Kotaku, the duplication glitch in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl allows players to get their hands on endless Pokémon, including Legendaries, as well as copies of whatever item they might be holding. Discovered by Twitter user kevinfor5 before being translated into a step-by-step video from Orcastraw, the glitch is a simple one that involves moving Pokémon across storages Boxes, and thanks to its ease of use, it’s already becoming a popular exploit. While anyone can complete the duplication bug, kevinfor5 believes they’ve already found another, even faster method of cloning, seen in the tweet below.

The Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl glitch might be a boon for players, but it will also unbalance and break the game very easily. Not only can users clone their Legendaries Dialga and Palkia, but even some of the rarer items found in the games, including the Master Ball. Those looking to put the bug through its paces and test just how much it can change within the games can do so by following the steps outlined in the tweets above, though any potential future patch might have an impact on save files that have utilized the bug.

While the glitch is currently usable at the time of writing, such a large game-breaking exploit is likely to be removed by Nintendo as soon as a fix is found. Fans are awaiting a number of bug fixes from the company, which should help improve the overall gameplay experience for those adventuring in the Sinnoh region. While Nintendo hasn’t yet addressed the exploit or confirmed a patch is the works, it seems unlikely that the feature will remain in Pokémon BDSP for long.
