Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl How To Beat Byron

Pokémon: Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl’s sixth gym leader is Byron, the Steel-type leader of the Canalave Gym. While players will recognize him and his Pokémon from the original Diamond & Pearl games, his Pokémon have gotten all new movesets to keep the battle fresh in the remakes. Defeating him will earn players their Mine Badge.

In order to face Byron, players must make their way through Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl’s Canalave Gym using a series of moving platforms, most of which are blocked by the gym’s many trainers. After battling their way through, players will reach a red platform that will take them straight to Byron.

Steel-type Pokémon are strong against Rock, Ice, and Fairy-type Pokémon. Unfortunately, they’re also resistant to more types than any other type of Pokémon, making Byron’s gym a tough one to take on for unprepared trainers. However, Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl players will emerge victorious with a good team of Pokémon and an effective strategy.

While Byron uses the same party of Pokémon that he did in the original Diamond & Pearl games, their movesets have been updated for Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl to give players a fresh challenge.

Bronzor / Steel & Psychic / Level 36

Steelix / Steel & Ground / Level 36

Bastiodon / Rock & Steel / Level 39

Steel-type Pokémon are weak against Water, Fire, Electric, and other Steel-types, and they’re vulnerable to Fighting, Ground, and Fire-type moves. However, Steel-type Pokémon are resistant to Normal, Grass, Bug, Tock, Poison, Steel, Psychic, Ice, Fairy, and Dragon-type moves, leaving trainers with a pretty narrow range of effective types to choose from.

A Luxray with Bite or a Pikachu with Thief are good choices as these Dark-type moves will counter the Bronzor’s secondary Psychic-type. Skuntank is another excellent choice, as it can learn Flamethrower. Trainers who chose Chimchar or Piplup as their starter will also have a type advantage with their evolved Infernape or Empoleon, but Infenape’s secondary Fighting-type will put it at a disadvantage. Finally, Empoleon is an excellent counter to Steelix’s secondary Ground-type and Bastiodon’s Rock-type, but Gastrodon is another good candidate for this battle as a Water/Ground type.

Upon defeat, Byron will reward Pokémon trainers with Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl’s Mine Badge, which allows them to use the Hidden Move Strength. They will also receive five TM91s which teach the move Flash Cannon. Byron will also give players his set of Stickers, which they can use to customize the animations of their Poké Balls.
