A Pokémon fan recently unveiled an impressive piece of artwork, featuring a particularly lifelike-looking Dialga – the Legendary Pokémon best known for its appearance in Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Brilliant Diamond. Dialga (and its Pearl / Shining Pearl counterpart, Palkia) is presently at the forefront of gaming-related conversations, thanks to this past November’s release of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl bringing Pokémon’s Generation IV to the current-generation Nintendo Switch console.

Pokémon has a particularly large, loyal and doting fan base that frequently pays homage to the series through a variety of projects and creations. In many situations, fans enjoy celebrating the franchise through artwork highlighting one or more of Pokémon’s titular creatures. One fan recently showcased their artwork highlighting the adorable nature of Eevee – one of the series’ most popular Pokémon – and its various evolutions through artwork depicting them as floppy-eared bunnies. The artwork was deservedly well received by fellow Pokémon enthusiasts and Eevee lovers.

Another Pokémon fan recently unveiled their own homage to the series – this time, featuring Legendary Steel- and Dragon-type Pokémon Dialga. The artist, Reddit user JayuiceArt, uploaded a picture of their artwork with the set of colored pencils they used to create the piece. Their rendition of Dialga reflects light and color in a way that makes the final product appear exceptionally lifelike, with meticulously placed shadows emphasizing the Pokémon’s shape and size. JayuiceArt’s work could certainly serve as a prototype for a live-action version of Pokémon Diamond & Pearl, or at least give viewers a guide to imagining a real-life Dialga.

JayuiceArt’s Dialga creation received a lot of love from the Pokémon fan base, and understandably so given its detail. One user commented, “Your art is so lifelike, it looks like it’s popping out of the page. It’s very satisfying looking at the smooth lines and beautiful shading.” Another expressed similar sentiments, explaining, “I love your shading technique. I don’t know much about art but it seems like you use different directions in your strokes to imply different textures, making it look more realistic… Love this!”

As many fans of the franchise probably do every now and then, transferring the world of Pokémon to real life would be an incredible feat. Pokémon GO has made this somewhat of a possibility, using AR technology to create realistic-looking encounters with Pokémon through mobile device cameras. That said, JayuiceArt’s Dialga is a great rendition of what a real-life version could look like, spurring the imagination even more.
