Spheal is an Ice- and Water-type Pokémon in Pokémon GO, and it has several weaknesses players can exploit to defeat it in one-star raids.

Players can encounter Spheal in one-star raids during the month of December in Pokémon GO. Spheal will also be featured in a special holiday costume with a green and red scarf wrapped around it, and players can encounter it in the wild. Since Spheal is an Ice- and Water-type Pokémon, players can use Electric, Grass, Fighting, or Rock moves to counter it in one-star raid battles. Spheal will be more effective against Dragon, Fire, Flying, Grass, Ground, and Rock Pokémon.
Each month, different exclusive Pokémon appear in one, three, and five-star raids in Pokémon GO. The star indicates how difficult the Pokémon will be to defeat. One-star raids can usually be taken on by only one player, but friends can still be invited to battle in the raid and catch a Spheal from December 16 to December 31. Some players may even have a chance to catch a Shiny Spheal after defeating it in a raid battle.
Although Pokémon GO recommends a team of Pokémon to fight in raids, players will likely want to make changes to the team based on which moves their Pokémon know. To change moves, players can use Fast TMs and Charged TMs until their Pokémon have the best build possible. In order to quickly defeat Spheal in raid battles, players can use Mega Pokémon or Pokémon with super-effective moves.
Winning Spheal Raids in Pokémon GO
Any Pokémon that knows Electric, Grass, or Fighting moves will work very well against Spheal. Some Mega evolutions are ideal for fighting Spheal in raids such as Manectric, Ampharos, or Abamosnow, but there are many regular Pokémon that can easily beat Spheal as well. Players should use Pokémon with high CP, especially if they are completing the Pokémon GO one-star raid solo.
Best Mega Pokémon and Movesets
- Mega Manectric: Thunder Fang and Wild Charge
- Mega Venusaur: Vine Whip and Petal Blizzard
- Mega Lopunny: Low Kick and Focus Blast
Best Regular Pokémon and Movesets
- Lucario: Counter and Aura Sphere
- Zarude: Vine Whip and Power Whip
- Machamp: Counter and Dynamic Punch
Since Spheal only appears in one-star raids, players should be able to quickly defeat it. In order to catch Spheal, players may want to use items like the Razz Berry or Golden Razz Berry to increase the chance of capture. Alternatively, for players that want to quickly evolve Spheal, they can use a Pinap Berry or Silver Pinap Berry to earn extra candies when Spheal is caught. Players looking to catch a Shiny Spheal should fight in as many Spheal raids as possible throughout December in Pokémon GO.
