Pokémon GO Needs To Raise Its Level Cap Again

As a mobile game, Pokémon GO, has continued being popular – even during a pandemic when many players have been stuck at home over the past year. With its iconic monster companions and capturing mechanics, the game is still a lot of fun, even indoors when outside exploration isn’t posssible. However, it’s time that developer Niantic raised the maximum level cap in Pokémon GO again.

The maximum level was raised from 40 to 50 fairly recently, near the end of 2020. Reaching level 50 in Pokémon GO is hard, especially considering the amount of tasks that must be completed alongside of getting the necessary experience. However, as more and more players reach this new level cap, there’s starting to be a bit of a lull in content. So, raising the level cap would be a great way to keep more players interested – or coming back to the game.

Now, there’s a growing number of players who don’t need XP and have no real goals (outside of events) to try to accomplish. It also means the rewards are sometimes lacking, which can be another reason for people to stop playing. The number of players at maximum level will only continue to grow as more people discover tips and tricks for leveling to 50, so newer levels, tasks, and rewards are definitely needed. However, these aren’t the only reasons Pokémon GO needs to raise players’ maximum levels.

The Maximum Level In Pokémon GO Should Be Raised To 60

Summer is quickly approaching, meaning more people will want to spend time outdoors and possibly even exploring with games like Pokémon GO. After many people were sheltered indoors last summer, and with COVID-19 vaccines rolling out at an increasingly steady pace, it’s safe to assume this summer will be much more active than last year’s. And with more people presumably playing Pokémon GO, Niantic needs to raise the current level cap.

While events like Friendship Day and Valentine’s Day may keep some players logging into the game on a regular basis, increasing a level cap or adding in new species of Pokémon is theoretically a better way to keep players interested. Raising the maximum level to 60 before summer arrives is definitely needed, since players will want new tasks to complete, XP to gather, and rewards to earn. While there’s been no official word from Niantic or The Pokémon Company that a level cap increase is coming, a higher maximum level in Pokémon GO needs to happen soon.
