Niantic, developer of Pokémon GO, has announced that the Season of Heritage’s Incense Day will feature the Ice/Ground-type Pokémon Swinub, first introduced in Generation Two. Pokémon GO’s Season of Heritage is believed to be taking Trainers back into the annals of history, with content set to align with the upcoming Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus, due to release in January 2022, will serve as a prequel to Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, once again taking players to the Sinnoh region albeit in a completely different era. The upcoming installment has confirmed that before Sinnoh was Sinnoh, it was known as the Hisui region, an entirely different landscape offering new challenges and even new Pokémon. Legends: Arceus will vary from other entries in the longstanding series, offering new ways for Trainers to catch pocket monsters and explore the world. The game will also introduce new Hisuian Pokémon forms.

As confirmed on the official Pokémon GO Live website, the Season of Heritage will begin with Swinub’s Incense Day on December 5, running from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time. During that time, Swinub will be attracted to Incense, with lucky players able to acquire a Shiny variant of the pocket monster. Swinub’s evolutions will also benefit from the Incense Day, with those who evolve a Piloswine to a Mamoswine getting the exclusive Charged Attack Ancient Power move. Event-exclusive Field Research will also be available, alongside a new two-Incense Item Bundle available in the shop. A host of Ice-type and Ground-type Pokémon, including Galarian Darumaka and Larvitar, will also have Incense Encounters on the same day, with full details available on the Pokémon GO website.

The next Pokémon GO Incense event is already looking promising, and it could give fans an idea of what to expect from Pokémon Legends: Arceus. The event-exclusive Field Research will see players investigate mysterious ruins and an unexplained door hiding some sort of powerful force, which is likely to link back to the Hisui region Trainers will get to experience when the title releases next year. Fans probably won’t learn too much about Pokémon Legends: Arceus from the GO event, but it should drive excitement for the upcoming launch.

Pokémon GO has often celebrated other Pokémon-related works within the free-to-play mobile game, including Netflix’s Pokémon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle, as well as an in-game event for the recently-released Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, which came to Nintendo Switch last month. Fans have been expecting tie-in content for Pokémon Legends: Arceus, and it’s hoped that the Season of Heritage won’t disappoint when it begins later this week.
