The Poketch is a valuable item in Pokemon Brillant Diamond and Shining Pearl for players to unlock. With the original titles released back in 2006 on the Nintendo DS, this will likely be many players’ first visit to the Sinnoh region. Like with other mainline Pokemon adventures, players will pick one of three Pokemon and set out in the world to catch more and train to be the very best. Along the way, players will uncover items that will help make their journey easier. In Pokemon Brillant Diamond and Shining Pearl, players will come across the Poketch, a digital watch with tons of features. The Pokemon Diamond and Pearl remakes use the Poketch to make HMs easier to use, which is already a quality-of-life improvement from the original.
The Poketch itself was part of the original Pokemon Diamond and Pearl and provided players with features like a Pedometer to track how many steps the player has traveled, or the Analog Watch to keep track of time. Players are only given four apps at the start but as the player continues through their adventure, they can unlock additional apps for the Poketch. Certain apps of interest might be the Coin Toss, Stopwatch, or the Day-Care Checker. Fortunately, players don’t have to wait too long before getting their hands on it in the remakes.
Whether players buy Brillant Diamond, Shining Pearl, or both, players will be able to unlock the Poketch towards the beginning of either game. Shortly after leaving Twinleaf Town and traveling towards Route 202, players will arrive in Jubilife City. Players will then need to head over to the Trainers School.
Unlocking The Poketch in Pokemon Brillant Diamond and Shining Pearl
After arriving inside the Trainers School in Jubilife City, players can speak with their rival and give them the Parcel item from earlier in the game. In return, the rival will give the player two Town Maps. Now, head to the center of Jubilife, and the head of the Poketch company will task the player with finding three clowns and collecting coupons from each of them.
All the clowns have distinct outfits, making it easy to locate them within the city. Speak with them all and make sure to select “Yes” for all of their questions. After collecting all three coupons, return back to the Poketch man in the center and he will give the player the Poketch watch. In the beginning, players will only have access to the Digital Watch, Memo Pad, Friendship Checker, and Dowsing Machine. The last one allows players to find hidden items within the world.
Players can also unlock more features for the Poketch throughout the adventure. Like the updated gyms in Brillant Diamond and Shining Pearl, the Pokech does have a new look when compared to the original.
- Berry Searcher: This app will show the player where berries are located on a small map. It is given to the player by the Berry Master on Route 208
- Calculator: Just as the name implies, this is a calculator.
- Calendar: Another simple app, it’s a month-to-month calendar.
- Coin Toss: Flip a coin for a heads or tails result. Found on a hill in Valor Lakefront on Route 213.
- Counter: This app acts as a manual counter and can be obtained on the second floor of the Veilstone Department Store.
- Digital Watch: This app tells the current time.
- Dowsing Machine: The Dowsing Machine is given to players when they reach Route 206, and act as a radar to find hidden items.
- Friendship Checker: This app will show players how much their Pokemon like them. This app can be obtained in the Eterna City’s Pokémon Centre.
- Kitchen Timer: This acts as a countdown timer.
- Marking Map: This allows players to add markers to a small map and is obtained after achieving 3 gym badges.
- Move Tester: This allows players to test moves and see what is effective against certain types. Received after obtaining the seventh Gym Badge.
- Pedometer: The pedometer will keep track of in-game steps made by the player.
- Pokémon History: This app is given the player in Solaceon Town and shows the last 12 Pokémon collected.
- Pokémon List: This shows players their 6 current Pokemon and their health.
- Stopwatch: A simple stopwatch, can be obtained in Pal Park.
