Pokémon Legends Arceus 10 Best NPCs Ranked

With the release of Pokémon Legends: Arceus, the first mainline open-world game of the Pokémon franchise, came dozens of new, and in one case returning, characters. While the biggest speculation of these characters is often who their descendants are, fans of the game have been talking about just how great the NPCs are on their own.

From traveling salespeople to villagers with requests, the people of the Hisui region come in as many different personalities as the Pokémon of the region. With a wide campaign and missions that are necessary to beat the game, players will spend a lot of time with the NPCs. In some cases, they might even grow attached.

10 Cyllene Seems Cold, But Becomes A Close Friend

Pokémon Legends Arceus 10 Best NPCs Ranked

Captain Cyllene is introduced as the no-nonsense captain of the Galaxy Team and is one of the first major NPCs of the game. As the ancestor of Team Galactic’s leader, Cyrus, players expected her to stay stern and maybe even evil throughout the game. In a well-received twist, this is not what happened.

Instead, Cyllene ends up being a close friend to the player character and helpful teammate as time goes on. Cyllene even lends her own Abra to the player when they are kicked out of Jubilife Village by Kamado. Upon their return, she also throws the celebration party for the player.

9 Zeke Is A Caring Brother

After unlocking Ursaluna, Zeke reaches out to the player because his sister, Wanda, has gone missing. Zeke, worried about her safety, asks the player to find her and bring her home safely. The player does this, three different times. Outwardly, this could be seen as just another fetch quest with a human as the thing to be fetched, but it has a nicer background than someone asking the player to catch a Buizel.

Zeke really cares for Wanda which he proves by going to the Alabaster Icelands by himself to find her. After reuniting the two one final time, they have a touching moment that melts fans’ hearts.

Fans were shocked to learn of a Romeo & Juliet plotline that occurred in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, between Iscan and Palina. Iscan is a warden of the Diamond Clan and Palina serves as a Warden of the Pearl Clan.

After the death of the Noble Arcanine, Iscan saved Palina from drowning, setting up their quaint love story. Iscan regularly braves his fear of ghosts just to help out his love leaving players emotionally invested in the two and holding on tight to their secret for them.

7 Irida Slowly Warms To The Player

As the young leader of the Pearl Clan, Irida initially seems standoffish toward the player, even suspecting them of being a negative force. Since she begins the adventure both antagonistic and mildly self-deprecating, the player has plenty of time to connect to her.

By the end of the game, the player can see Irida has undergone some immense character growth. While she retains her trademark qualities, like her disdain for heat, she proves herself a capable leader and friend.

6 Commander Kamado Goes From Good To Great

The leader of the Galaxy Team, Commander Kamado presents a strong front while often showing off a goofier side. Unlike characters like Irida, Kamado goes through waves of character development instead of a straight line, especially concerning the player character and the space-time rift.

From his earliest moments, he is introduced as a caring and fun guy, even showing off his wrestling moves whenever he can. By the end, he is ready to punch gods while dressed as a ninja-knight and toss a child off a mountain to save the world. That is called growth.

5 Tao Hua Learns To Bury The Hatchet

Pokémon Legends Arceus 10 Best NPCs Ranked

As the player progresses, they are given four chances to complete the “More Wares” line of requests which sees the merchant Choy attempt to make new deals with the leader of the Supply Corps, Tao Hua. The first two times just have the two meaninglessly bickering. But by the third, players learn the two have history, as Choy has stolen from Tao Hua.

After completing the final task, the player learns that Tao Hua’s granddaughter was “stolen” because she fell in love with Choy. Tao Hua’s bickering was an attempt to make sure this man was good for his granddaughter, showing off his caring heart, even if his granddaughter needs to knock sense into them both.

4 Volo Is A Surprise Villain

Pokémon Legends Arceus 10 Best NPCs Ranked

One of the most involved NPCs of the game, entirely through his own meddling, Volo is introduced as a wandering merchant with a love of historical lore. As the player finishes the main storyline, it is discovered that Volo is directly responsible for the events of the game.

As the ancestor of Sinnoh’s Champion Cynthia, Volo was instantly a fan favorite. Even with a heel turn under his belt and some interesting fashion choices, like his hair, that interest in the character has not faded.

3 Beauregard Is A Prime Example Of A Good Trainer

As one of the earliest mission requests, and a familiar face around Jubilife Village, Beauregard quickly became a fan-favorite character in Legends: Arceus. Day and night, he stands in front of Galaxy Hall for his Security Corps duties but needs a friend to pass the time with.

He requests a Wurmple, which eventually evolves into a Cascoon instead of the Silcoon he was waiting for. After finding this was the case, he accepts the Cascoon who later evolves into a Dustox. Beauregard shows the Pokémon love and proves the bond between Pokémon and humans.

2 Ingo Hails From The Distant Future

As many fans are aware, Ingo actually doesn’t first appear in Pokemon Legends: Arceus. Rather he has experienced the same time travel shenanigans the player. Originally introduced as part of a duo with his brother Emmet on the Battle Subway of the Unova Region, Ingo serves as a Warden, showing he’s been in the past for a while.

As a fellow time traveler, the player can look to Ingo as an inspiration while helping him remember some of his own past. With no memory and a new world, he proved himself capable of surviving and thriving in Hisui. Many fans also believe that his inclusion signals the return of Unova in coming games.

1 Professor Laventon Is As Good As A Professor Can Be

Serving as the Pokémon Professor of Hisui, Professor Laventon is an adorable goof that instantly raised the bar for future professors. From his outfit clashing hat to his uneasiness in the wild, players took to him and his personality quirks with fondness.

Speculated to be from the Galar region and related to Hop and Leon, Laventon is also now credited with the written descriptions of the creatures for the Pokédex which appear later in the timeline. He is one of the reasons the Pokédex gets notoriously wild with its descriptions.
