Target revealed that those who buy the upcoming game Pokémon Legends: Arceus from the retailer will receive a free bonus item.
A recent promotional flier shows that a free art portfolio will be given to customers who purchase a physical copy of the latest installment in the Pokémon video game series. The portfolio appears to comprise of memo paper featuring the playable characters alongside the starters Rowlett, Cyndaquil and Oshawott and a bundle of envelopes depicting Arceus, the legendary creator Pokémon. A sticker sheet featuring various pocket monsters is also included. Quantities are limited and fans will only receive the art portfolio by purchasing the game in-store, not online.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus takes players back to the ancient land of Hisui, which will later become known as Sinnoh. In this idyllic environment, humans still consider Pokémon to be a mystery, with many believing them to be dangerous. Legends: Arceus marks a significant departure from the general formula used in most other Pokémon games by having players traverse through a semi-open world and capture a wide array of Pokémon to build the first Pokédex in history. The game will also feature new Pokémon evolutions, regional variants and mechanics such as item crafting where trainers can create items like potions and Pokéballs from raw materials they collect throughout their journey. Fans can customize their look as well through different outfits and hairstyles that can be found in stores in Jubilife Village.
Enthusiasts excited to play Legends: Arceus should also check out Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, the latest games in the franchise. These remakes of the game’s fourth generation have enjoyed great commercial success, with a collective 6 million copies being sold only a week after their release. While their chibi style and faithfulness to their Nintendo DS predecessors have been praised, the games have been criticized for their easiness due to players not being able to turn off the Experience Share feature, which can result in Pokémon being over-levelled for a good portion of the game’s runtime.
Since its inception in 1996, Pokémon has become one of the highest-grossing media franchises of all time and still enjoys immense popularity today. The series centers around the titular pocket monsters, creatures with unique abilities and powers that roam freely throughout the world. Most of the mainline games see trainers capturing these powerful beasts and battling plenty of opponents with the goal of eventually becoming the Pokémon Champion of their region. While Pokémon began as a series of video games, it has also been adapted into several anime series and a trading card game.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus arrives on Nintendo Switch on Jan. 28.
