After what seems like an eternity of twiddling Poké Balls, Pokémon: Let’s Go Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go Eevee! are finally here. As loose remakes of Pokémon Yellow, it’s back to the Kanto Region to try and catch the first 151 Pokémon, some colorful Alohan forms, and an extra addition of Meltan.

The first main-series Pokémon game to break away from handheld consoles, Nintendo Switch owners are getting to grips with Pokémon: Let’s Go Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go Eevee!, as well as the new Poké Ball Plus. As gamers bravely set off in search of those adorable Pocket Monsters, here’s everything they need to know before trying to catch ’em all in Pokémon: Let’s Go Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go Eevee!.

Skip Pokémon: Let’s Go’s Cutscenes

Seeing Pikachu and Eevee in animated form is undeniably cute, but when players have watched the same scene over and over again, it can get a little monotonous. Thankfully, there’s a way to skip the cutscenes and get on with catching Pokémon like they’re supposed to. Press X to unlock the menu and then Y to choose Options. Scrolling down and selecting “Movie Skipping” means it’s easy to avoid the cutscenes by simply pressing + or – on the Joy Con.

Don’t Ignore Pokémon: Let’s Go NPCs

Chatting to NPCs is another boring part of every Pokémon title, but anyone who’s picked up a game will know how important Super Nerd Luke or Lavender Town Hiking Girl Sally can be. It’s exactly the same in Pokémon: Let’s Go Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go Eevee! as NPCs offer more than just some handy advice. NPCs have one-off deals and gifts to share, which means the Magikarp handed over for $500 near the start of the game is a suped-up version of anything caught in the wild.

Use Pokémon: Let’s Go’s Catch Combos

Those who’ve played Pokémon Go know how Catch Combos can lead to finding Pokémon at a higher level, and this really comes into play during Pokémon: Let’s Go Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go Eevee!. Catching a streak of the same type of Pokémon will start a Catch Combo and earn more XP. Elsewhere, Catch Combos can trigger rare Pokémon and evolved forms much earlier on in the game. Finally, Catch Combos can also help Shiny Pokémon appear — who doesn’t love a sparkly version of their favorite critter?

Get The Original Three in Pokémon: Let’s Go

Although player’s don’t have to make that all-important decision of which starter Pokémon to pick, it doesn’t mean the famous Charmander, Squirtle, and Bulbasaur aren’t out there in Kanto. Long-time fans will know how powerful the ‘original three’ are, so adding them to the Pokédex is a clever must-make move.

As trainers progress, Bulbasaur can be found in Cerulean City after catching 30 Pokémon, Charmander after 50 on Route 24, and Squirtle from Vermillion City’s Officer Jenny after catching 60. The three behemoths can also be caught in the wild, but as stated above, NPCs usually give higher levels.

Don’t Be Afraid To Repel in Pokémon: Let’s Go

Catching Pokémon may be the name of the game, but there are those odd moments when players need a little space to reflect on what’s going on. When heading into some of the game’s later puzzles, Super Repel and Max Repel come in handy when tackling Pokémon: Let’s Go Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go Eevee!’s challenging puzzles.

Avoiding constant interruptions from Zubat and Geodude can make all the difference when shoving boulders around and needing some time to think.

Earn Some Cash in Pokémon: Let’s Go

While it isn’t necessary to part with cash to buy Poké Balls, earning money is an integral part of Pokémon: Let’s Go Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go Eevee!. Picking up Nuggets, Pearls, and Stardust might seem like a waste of time, but it’s important to remember that these are solely in the games to be sold.

Instead of lugging around extra items, shift them for much-needed cash and buy something that might actually be useful.

Make The Most Of Buddies in Pokémon: Let’s Go

Pikachu and Eevee will always follow the player, but whip out an extra buddy as soon as possible. As well as bonding with Pokémon, the buddy will point out when hidden items are nearby and are invaluable for finding stuff in the undergrowth. More than just some extra animation, certain follower Pokémon can be ridden or even flown on.

Select “Party” on the menu and pick “Take out of Poké Ball.” Voila, players now have their very own treasure hunting partner in crime.

Feed Pokémon Candies in Pokémon: Let’s Go

Find Professor Oak’s Aide in Pokémon: Let’s Go

Speaking of the helpful Prof, he isn’t the only Pokémon scientist who is useful during the game’s progression. Eagle-eyed trainers will be able to spot Prof. Oak’s Aide in his white coat at several points in Pokémon: Let’s Go Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go Eevee!. Hanging out in the Guard posts, Professor Oak’s Aide rewards players for how complete their Pokédex is. Catching 30 species unlocks the Pokémon Rating feature, 40 species means he’ll hand over 30 Ultra Balls, and 50 species gifts an adorable lab coat for Pikachu or Eevee.

Say Aloha in Pokémon: Let’s Go

It might seem a little odd when NPCs ask to trade a Rattata for a Rattata, but players should really give it a shot. Alohan forms of Pokémon are littered throughout trades, meaning a towering Alohan Exeggutor or rainbow-colored Alohan Muk could be lurking just around the corner. Trading with NPCs is the only way to get all the Alohan forms without Pokémon Go, so like the article previously said, TALK TO EVERYONE.

Nintendo hasn’t gifted players the long-awaited Pokémon RPG and the arrival of Generation 8, but that hasn’t stopped Pokémon: Let’s Go Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go Eevee! being two more fan-favorite entries into the gaming series.
