Team Rocket’s Meowth is undoubtedly the brains of the operation, and he’s constantly dreaming of ridiculous ways to impress boss Giovanni.

The villainous Team Rocket of Pokémon has received universal adoration from the fandom for their ridiculous plans to steal Ash’s Pikachu and their humorous personalities. While Jessie and James are the faces of the team, it is their crafty talking Meowth that serves as the brains of the operation. Meowth is the one who usually comes up with the schemes that Team Rocket carries out.
As part of his plans, Meowth often dreams up how their boss, Giovanni, will praise Team Rocket for their ingenuity and ability to bring him all sorts of powerful Pokémon. These sequences always involve Giovanni acting in a way unfitting of his serious nature, even putting him in silly circumstances or outfits.
10 Fighting Fear With Fear
Team Rocket does not always target just Pikachu. Often, they’ll try to snatch one of Ash’s other Pokémon. One such plan involves bringing Ash’s Gligar to Giovanni in order to shield the boss’ eyes from the morning sun in order to enjoy the last few moments of his dreams. It’s a hilariously meaningless task that could easily be solved by using an eyemask rather than a live Pokémon.
There’s another layer to Meowth’s daydream that pushes this fantasy into straight-up black humor. Gligar bears a close resemblance to the face-huggers from Alien, meaning that the purpose Meowth intended for it may potentially backfire horrendously.
9 Bound For Trouble
Meowth’s ultimate dream isn’t just to wind up in Giovanni’s good graces. Rather, he wishes to surpass Giovanni’s beloved Persian as his favorite Pokémon. When he accidentally chains himself up to Pikachu and the two get separated from their trainers, Meowth sees a golden opportunity to take Pikachu to the boss singlehandedly and earn himself his dream job.
His visualization of sitting on Giovanni’s lap with Pikachu caged and Persian disgraced tells the fans everything they need to know about Meowth. While he’s undoubtedly loyal to Jessie and James, Meowth isn’t above striking out on his own and getting his claws dirty if needs be.
8 Date Expectations
Not all plans made by Meowth are foolproof. Even that clever cat sometimes finds himself unable to think of what a Pokémon could be used for. When presented with the opportunity to snatch the powerful Donphan, Meowth finds himself unable to come up with what Giovanni could want a Donphan for. He considers bowling, back massages, and exercising before concluding that Donphan is too destructive for any of those uses.
There’s a very obvious solution to Meowth’s problem. It’s so obvious, in fact, that the trio seemingly skips over it in their attempts to impress their boss. Donphan, being a Ground-type Pokémon, would make a perfect addition to Giovanni’s team when he’s acting as the Viridian City gym leader.
7 The Lonely Snover
To most Pokémon fans, “Giovanni” and “snow cones” sound like a ridiculous combination that would never work. To Meowth, however, it’s a match made in heaven. His plans for Team Rocket capturing Snover involve Giovanni using Snover’s freezing abilities to open up a snow cone stand, making some extra money to fund Team Rocket’s evil ambitions on the side.
This particular fantasy captures a lovable side to the Pokémon villain that most fans rarely get to see. His sheer joy selling snow cones and the long line of customers lining up to try them showcase that if Giovanni ever retired from crime, he has at least one job option to fall upon.
6 A Corsola Caper
Meowth’s scheme for kidnapping a horde of Corsola and bringing them to Giovanni counts alongside one of his weaker plans. When Jessie and James question Meowth about what Giovanni would want Corsola for, he answers that Corsola could beautify Giovanni’s estate and make things as wonderfully pink as they are.
Team Rocket is so caught up in pleasing Giovanni with a successful mission that they don’t stop to consider why Giovanni would want or need “a wonderfully pink estate.” Unlike Donphan, Corsola isn’t even a type of Pokémon that Giovanni uses in battle, making this plan utterly ludicrous.
5 A Rivalry To Gible On
Many of Meowth’s boss fantasies involve Giovanni inexplicably going shirtless, showing off a surprisingly muscular physique underneath that bright orange suit. “A Rivalry To Gible On” continues this trend by having Meowth imagine Giovanni at the beach with a lone Gible brought to him by Team Rocket, the two splashing in the waves.
Giovanni seems exuberant at the idea of going into the ocean, and his joy is practically infectious. Unfortunately for Team Rocket, Ash himself caught a Gible later on in the series, putting him one step ahead of the trio once again.
4 Where’s Armaldo?
The Pokémon Lileep and Cradily are what’s known as “ancient Pokémon,” species that have since gone extinct and can only be received through reviving fossilized remains. Meowth’s plans for bringing Giovanni these Pokémon and other ancient species don’t end in money or power. Rather, they’re to help Giovanni rediscover his wild side and let off some steam.
The sequence of Giovanni ripping off his suit to reveal a loincloth and swinging through the trees Tarzan-style while whooping proves a sharp contrast from the collected and sophisticated Team Rocket leader fans have come to love. Perhaps this juxtaposition is why this particular boss fantasy stands out from the others.
3 Awakening The Sleeping Giant
While Meowth’s fantasies about Giovanni have slowly been phased out of later seasons, that doesn’t stop the show from revisiting the gag occasionally. Pokémon The Series: XY has an episode involving a classic Pokémon problem: a sleeping Snorlax blocking the road. Historically, the only way to wake Snorlax involves the use of a Poké Flute.
Team Rocket, however, had other plans for the Poké Flute and Snorlax: an army of them commanded by Giovanni, a la The Pied Piper. This fantasy takes on a more menacing tone, with the Snorlax standing in a fiery field and Giovanni cackling above them in the background.
2 Pokémon Ranger: Heatran Rescue
Heatran is one of the legendary Pokémon of the Sinnoh region, with the power to cause volcanic eruptions when unrestricted by the Magma Stone. Naturally, its legendary status commands respect and dignity from any trainers that manage to befriend it.
Unfortunately, Team Rocket’s idea of how Giovanni would use Heatran is anything but respectful, as Meowth imagines Giovanni grilling his lunch and powering his sauna using Heatran’s immense heat. Luckily for Heatran, Ash and Pokémon Ranger Ben manage to stop Team Rocket from subjecting Heatran to a humiliating fate as Giovanni’s personal living fireplace.
1 Some Enchanted Sweetening
This fantasy of Meowth’s crosses the line so hard that it was ultimately removed from the American airing of this Sinnoh-era episode. Inspired by the use of Honey to attract wild Pokémon, Meowth imagines Giovanni covering himself in honey in order to attract hordes of Bug and Flying-type Pokémon over to him.
When watching the original Japanese version of this scene, it’s very apparent why it was cut from the dub. Upon climbing on top of Giovanni, the various Pokémon move in a very suggestive manner. Nevertheless, fans were attracted to the innuendo around this particular fantasy, and the image of a shirtless Giovanni covered in honey remains popular.
