Pokémon UNITE Holiday Event Guide

Pokémon Unite’s four-week holiday event begins December 15, 2021, and brings with it new Pokémon, Holowear, trainer cosmetic options, challenges, and even a new game mode. The additions are themed around winter weather and the holidays, which can be earned either by playing the Snowball Battle mode or via Special Log-In Gifts.

To get into the holiday spirit, Nintendo has announced that the Pokémon Tsareena will be accessible to all players from December 9 through December 31, 2021. Tsareena is an all-arounder with moves like Triple Axel, Trop Kick, and Queen Ascendant. In addition, Dragonite, a brand new all-arounder Pokémon, will join the Pokémon UNITE roster beginning December 20, 2021. Dragonite will have the moves Dragon Breath, Outrage, and Draco Impact.

In addition to the new Pokémon in Pokémon UNITE, the Illumination Challenge will begin on December 15, 2021. To participate, players can select the holiday tree in the lobby to complete the required daily missions and challenges. As they complete these missions, players will earn lights to decorate their tree and rewards such as a new winter background, fashion items, a trainer snapshot frame, and a one-day license to use a Pokémon. Beginning December 24, 2021, players can participate in the second-holiday challenge, the Photo Challenge. As players participate in various battles, they will earn snowflakes, which are used to reveal an image hidden by a silhouette.

Pokémon UNITE Holiday Event Outfits, Map, and Items

Pokémon will get new Holowear outfit options, including the soon-to-be-introduced Dragonite. So far, Holiday Styles are confirmed for Pikachu, Blastoise, Dragonite, Gardevoir, Garchomp, and Mamoswine featuring these Pokémon in red and white Santa hats. In addition, Crustle Cake Style is a new Holowear for the crab Pokémon, with his shell covered in icing and gloves on his claws. Finally, Snorlax Cook Style will be introduced, featuring the large Pokémon in a white chef’s coat with a matching hat.

Pokémon are not the only ones dressing up for the holidays in Pokémon UNITE as new trainer outfits will be available as well, including the Chef Outfit and Holiday Outfit. The Chef Outfit features a white button-down chef coat and hat, a white apron with an apple core, and a spatula graphic in blue. The Holiday Outfit features a red coat with a white fur trim decorated with a green and red bow with a holly pin in the hood.

Snowball Battle in Shivre City is a new game mode being added in Pokémon Unite’s Holiday Event, which features players in a 4-on4 quick battle map. This mode will introduce a wild Delibird, who will gift players a box once they defeat it containing a one-time use battle item that will replace their current item. An additional new mechanic to this mode is when the player, their enemy, or an ally are defeated, they will be turned into a snowman until their respawn timer is up. As a snowman, players cannot move, but their basic attack will cause them to jump, and their moves will create poses like waving and cheering as the battle continues. Once the timer is complete, players will respawn as normal from their home base as their chosen Pokémon. Articuno will replace Avalugg as a wild Pokémon in this mode.

Prize boxes will also be available in Pokémon Unite during the festive season for players who log in daily between December 24, 2021, and January 1, 2022. From December 25 to December 28, 2021, the prize box will allow players to choose from Aeos coins, Aeos tickets, Holowear tickets, or item enhancers. From December 29 to December 31, 2021, the prize box will contain a 7-day limited license that allows the player to choose from one of six Pokémon. In addition, a one-day exclusive New Year’s prize box will be available only on January 1, 2022, allowing players to choose from four exclusive trainer fashion items.
