PPPPPP is Turning Attack on Titans Darkest Power into a Force for Good

Warning! Spoilers ahead for PPPPPP chapter 13 and Attack on Titan chapter 139!

Reijiro Otogami of PPPPPP can summon and control titan apparitions through a form of piano playing known as experiential-visual music much like how Eren Yeager from Attack on Titan can manipulate his world’s eponymous giants when he employs the Founding Titan’s Scream. Eren has only used this ability for offensive purposes, which have culminated in the deaths of millions, but Reijiro plans on unleashing his titans for a much more honorable reason.

In chapter 13 of PPPPPP by mangaka Mapollo 3, Reijiro is so moved by the experiential-visual music of his estranged brother Lucky Sonoda that he comes up with the wild idea of going back home together and using his titans as knights to protect Lucky from their father who would most likely try to banish him. Lucky has a tumultuous relationship with their father, a world-renowned pianist who kicked Lucky out of their family due to his failure in music. He was so disgusted by Lucky’s incompetence that his six other children, who are also incredible piano-players, are known as the Otogami Sextuplets even though, with Lucky, they are actually septuplets.

In Attack on Titan, Eren infamously starts the Rumbling with the Founding Titan’s powers to unleash the Wall Titans upon the world that eventually destroys 80% of the human population. Although used as a means to vilify himself so that his friends could become heroes to help unite the world, this use of the Founding Titan’s power was not much of a force for good, especially when contrasted with how Reijiro plans on using his own titans to protect his brother Lucky.

Reijiro’s decision is a positive development to what began as a tragic rivalry. Reijiro depended greatly on Lucky growing up and suffered profoundly for years upon Lucky’s banishment. So when the two finally reunite years later in the present day, it is terribly disheartening when Reijiro begins to espouse their father’s twisted ideals upon learning Lucky still wants to become a pianist, taking it upon himself to crush Lucky’s dream since incompetent musicians like him should never strive to play the piano. But all of that negativity changes when Lucky uses his experiential-visual music to create the illusion of going back home for Reijiro whose life took a turn for the worse when his father separated him from the normal world by enrolling him in a music conservatory. Although Reijiro becomes overly dependent on the illusion, he is so deeply moved by the experience that he immediately disregards all of the horrible things he said to Lucky and embraces his dream of becoming a pianist.

It’s unclear how Reijiro’s giants will actually protect Lucky since they are just mere apparitions. For the most part, they appear innocuous, though, there was an instance during one of his earlier piano performances when Reijiro’s titans actually devoured apparitions of normal-sized humans much like how the eponymous giants in Attack on Titan feast upon humans. Of course, the latter titans are driven to eat humans in hopes of regaining their humanity since devouring a titan shifter will give them the ability to transform back. Meanwhile, not much is known about Reijiro’s giants and why he even summons them in the first place. Regardless, utilizing his titans in this way will be the first instance in PPPPPP where experiential-visual music is actually employed for combative purposes besides just as a means to impress judges and audiences during a piano performance.
