PS5 Exclusive Destruction AllStars Confirms Its Launch Game Modes

Originally revealed earlier this summer during the PlayStation 5 reveal event back in June, the arcade style destruction derby title, Destruction AllStars has been largely a mystery with fans. For most of the summer and as the launch of the PlayStation 5 approached, developer Lucid Games was seemingly content to fly under the radar leaving fans to wonder what the game would play like. For better or worse, the title was delayed out of the PS5 launch window into early in 2021, giving the developer more time to work on the title and reveal more details surrounding the game.

At long last, Lucid Games has revealed new gameplay as well as all the modes players will have access to when Destruction AllStars launches in February 2021. The reveal comes from the PlayStation Blog where George Rule, community manager at Lucid Games, provided a breakdown of each of the game modes and teasing the future of the car destruction game. It’s worth noting that each of the game modes can be played solo, in a team with AI, locally with friends, as well as online.

Mayhem

Mayhem is described as the game’s version of deathmatch either as a free for all or in teams. Essentially, players will need to deal damage and wreck as many opponents as possible within the time limits. The player or team with the highest score at the end, wins. The twist here is that once vehicles are destroyed, players will have to try and stay alive on foot until they can respawn a new vehicle.

Carnado

Similar to Mayhem, Carnado ups the stakes by letting players earn gear by damaging or wrecking opponents. In Destruction AllStars, Gear is collectable in-game items, though in this mode, players will need to bank the Gear by driving into the Carnado at the center of the map. While players earn score for their team, sacrificing the car means they have to survive on foot until a new car can be grabbed or stolen for a fast boost of points.

Stockpile

An objective based mode, Stockpile is a team only mode that again revolves around the collectable item, Gears. Wrecking and knocking out opponents causes gears to drop on the ground. Players will need to jump out of their vehicles to grab the Gears and then attempt to survive long enough to make it to one of three banks around the map. Stand on the bank to deposit the Gears and also claim it for their team. The team holding the most banks at the end of the match wins.

Gridfall

The closest thing to a Battle Royale mode that Destruction AllStars has, Gridfall pits 16 players against one another in order to survive a map that is slowly getting smaller with temporary platforms appearing on occasion as well. Opponents that are wrecked only have a few respawns to earn their way back in. The winner in this mode is the last player left standing.

Outside of these four game modes, Destruction AllStars also features a training area, complete with tutorials for each of the game’s colorful cast of characters, as well as a single player Challenge mode. These are curated events against the AI that players can take part in to unlock exclusive character and player cosmetics. In addition, the game does feature in-game currency called AllStar coins that can be spent on cosmetic items like skins, emotes, shouts, and more through leveling up and progression.

Lucid Games also teased the future of the game, hinting at seasonal events, post-launch content drops, updates as well as new characters and features will likely be coming down the road as well. Considering the title is now a free download for PlayStation Plus users in February 2021, both Sony and Lucid are likely banking on a healthy player base similar to what was seen with games like Rocket League and Fall Guys.

Destruction AllStars launches in February 2021, exclusively for PS5.
