The DualSense haptics in the PS5 exclusive title, Returnal are extremely detailed and let players experience the world of Atropos in exciting ways. Returnal, the third-person roguelike adventure is shaping up to be a terrifying experience, but it’s the finer details in the game that may make it a smash hit. Developed by Housemarque and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, the PlayStation 5 game is a psychological horror experience that pins Selene, the game’s protagonist, in a tragic cycle of life and death as she tries desperately to fight her way through aliens and find her way home. While the action might be the centerpiece of the title, one reviewer found enjoyment in the way the DualSense controller sucked them into the world.

Returnal will be released on April 30, and trailers have showcased a lot of the alien planet Selene finds herself trapped on. One Returnal trailer revealed the menacing monsters and tentacles that will stop Selene from reaching her goal, and another focused on the story players will experience. Now that the game’s launch is getting closer, reviewers are getting their hands on early copies and while gameplay is important, other details about Returnal are taking center stage.

In a tweet by Blessing Adeoye Jr., the host/producer of The Blessing Show revealed the incredible haptics offered by the DualSense controllers. Shown off in the video Adeoye Jr. released, the DualSense controllers vibrate the feeling of droplets of rain falling in Returnal.

I mentioned in my preview “feeling” the droplets of rain in the Dualsense and idk if I’ll ever get over stuff like this. Watch with sound on. The sound you hear is the Dualsense on my desk. pic.twitter.com/YxSjWzRY6B

Though viewers can’t yet feel the controller for themselves, the sound of the vibrations clearly gives the impression of falling rain. The haptic feedback is futuristic and will likely work well to bring players into the terrifying atmosphere of Returnal and the planet of Atropos. Returnal is not the only game taking advantage of the DualSense technology, though. Hood: Outlaws & Legends offers advanced DualSense features on PS5, in order to create an immersive experience. The future of haptics in games looks bright, and with upcoming releases taking full advantage, it’s likely the features will only get more in-depth.

If the droplets of rain in Returnal give off such a realistic tactile feel, the developers might have added a few more DualSense tricks in the game. It’s likely that fighting aliens will be as immersive as possible with DualSense vibrations and sounds. The mobs in Returnal are supposedly extremely diverse, so hopefully, the DualSense features take that into consideration and make fighting different aliens feel unique. Perhaps the DualSense will reveal itself in other ways as players finally get their hands on Returnal and jump into the dangerous world of Atropos.
