Ranking Every Season Of Full House

Full House certainly left its mark on family sitcom history when it aired its last episode twenty-five years ago. The stories told in each episode left viewers with all the family feels. Some fans also love the reboot Fuller House, but others prefer to stick with the original hit show.

There is plenty of love and laughter to go around in the Tanner household throughout its eight seasons. So much happened in all the different eras of Full House that it makes sense for viewers to have their favorite time periods. Here are all eight seasons, ranked in increasing order up to the best.

Season one is certainly important because it sets up the premise for the show, but the series’ tone evolves so much after these twenty-two episodes. In an interview with the author, executive producer Dennis Rinsler explained that he and executive producing partner Marc Warren wanted to bring more of a family focus to the series when they started there as writers on season two. The first season focuses much more on the bachelor father figures–Danny, Jesse, and Joey–than it does on their three little girls. In some of his last episodes with the last name “Cochran,” Jesse has a chance to evaluate whether or not he really wants to keep living with the Tanners.

The third season of Full House may have been a great one for DJ’s hair, but it’s not the most important of the eight. DJ has a few serious milestones, like starting junior high, turning thirteen, getting accused of drinking at a party, and dealing with body image issues. It’s pretty much business as usual for everyone else, though. Jesse and Becky are together (with the exception of a short break-up), Danny is happy with his job, and Joey makes some strides in his comedy career.

A fun memory from this season is the introduction to Comet the dog. Also, Michelle starts saying, “You got it dude,” and Stephanie drives Joey’s car into the house, which is trending now thanks to Fuller House. The season closes with the telethon episode.

6 Season 5

A lot of classic Full House moments happen in the fifth season. Nicky and Alex are born on Michelle’s birthday, Joey becomes Ranger Joe, and Danny meets his temporary co-host and love interest, Vicky, while Becky is on maternity leave. DJ also starts to grow up as she enters high school, sparking one of the most significant room re-dos of the series: Michelle moves in with Stephanie, and DJ gets her own room. Jesse gets a chance to further his music career with his greatest (cover) hit, “Forever.” Those Beach Boys must have gotten a lot of royalties off of this show.

The final season of any beloved show is going to be an emotional one. There’s a new band in town for Jesse and a chance at love for Danny with Gia’s mom, Claire. Surprisingly, there isn’t a ton of spotlight on DJ and Kimmy’s senior year. DJ is pursuing more mature relationships with Nelson and Viper. Steve returns in the finale to be her prom date, though. The season opener is the only one actually filmed in San Francisco because Comet gets loose on a walk with Michelle, sparking a city-wide search.

4 Season 4

There’s not a ton to distinguish this season from the third, but it’s a good one. Stephanie and Michelle are still in elementary school, DJ is still in junior high, Jesse and Joey are still in the advertising business, and Danny and Becky continue their Wake Up, San Francisco careers. The big ticket episodes are Jesse and Becky’s engagement, their wedding, their attempt to move out, and their pregnancy announcement. It’s important for the couple to have a season focused so much on their growth, even though Jesse makes a bad decision to flirt with his past at a high school reunion. This season also includes the “Danny and Cindy” era, the Steve Urkel appearance, and some pretty impressive opportunities for Joey as a comedian.

3 Season 6

Season six is definitely a sweet spot for Full House. Nicky and Alex quickly start growing into their little personalities, and Michelle looks more like a kid instead of a toddler. It is heartwarming to watch DJ and Steve fall in love for the first time. And even though they test out many careers on the show, it’s a lot of fun to see Joey and Jesse become the “Rush Hour Renegades.” They were made for the radio. Michelle and Stephanie’s room gets an epic face lift from Vicky’s mother, and the season closes with the two-part Disney World episode.

2 Season 2

Season two is one of the most important ones in the overall story arch of the series. The writers and producers really refine what a family sitcom means in the late 80s, and their hard work prepares the show to excel in the 90s.

Lori Loughlin first appears in this season as Becky, Jesse and Joey first realize that they can work together, and DJ’s friendship with Kimmy becomes more central. The stories start to become more nuanced with a dose of seriousness here and there, beginning with Jesse’s terrible motorcycle accident.

1 Season 7

From the season opener following the Tanner girls’ return from summer camp to the season finale in which a buyer almost persuades everyone to give up their full house, this is a juicy season. Stephanie gets a true best friend in Gia, and Michelle’s pals come into greater focus. DJ and Steve get more serious but ultimately break up. Same with Danny and Vicky. The Smash Club opens under new management: Jesse. Sadly, the family’s beloved Papouli (grandfather) dies, but they do get to meet Denise’s Uncle, Little Richard. It’s one of the most jam-packed seasons, and in the author’s opinion, simply the best.
