Disney villains are bad, but they do it in style. However, some do it better than others, so here’s the ultimate ranking of the animated baddies.

Ranking The Disney Villains By Style

The villains in Disney are one of the best things about the stories: more than the protagonists or the plot in many cases, even! They come in various sizes, shapes, forms, species, and so on, and all of them likewise have a unique set of motivations behind the acts of evil they commit. Of course, this doesn’t forgive them for their crimes, but it adds an extra dimension to their personality at the very least.

Another aspect that defines their characterizations is their appearance — Disney villains clearly take immense pride in how they look, with specific detail provided to their costumes, physical marks, as well as poise. None of them look the same, but their style and their demeanor blend with each other so well, one might argue that it is this combination that lends credence to their respective iconicities.

10 Mother Gothel (Tangled)

Ranking The Disney Villains By Style

Disregarding her true form, which is a decrepit looking ancient lady, Mother Gothel with the magic of the Golden Flower is gorgeous. She’s tall, lithe, and well-proportioned, to put it politely, not to mention her luscious tresses and rose-tinted cheeks.

Her outfit is likewise amazing: a scarlet-hued Medieval style gown replete with gold borders and belt. Mother Gothel is truly a sight to behold in this form, explaining why she struggles so hard to maintain her youthful beauty.

9 Scar (The Lion King)

Ranking The Disney Villains By Style

Like his older brother Mufasa, Scar is regal and elegant in attitude, which is expected from a prince belonging to the “royal family”. His anatomy is lithe (some might say gaunt), but this only adds to the mystery hidden behind his yellow-green eyes.

At the same time, Scar’s untamed mane creates an aura of ferocity around him, which is enhanced by the narrow scar located across his left eye. Interestingly, the live-action adaptation vaguely implies that his injury might have been caused by a fight with Mufasa during their childhood.

8 Yzma (The Emperor’s New Groove)

Ranking The Disney Villains By Style

The sorceress Yzma is one of the sassiest Disney characters of all time. She loves the color purple, and all the varying hues that accompany it: she is covered in lilacs, lavenders, mauves, violets, and many other shades that probably don’t even have common names.

She’s rail-thin, but instead of looking like a starved waif, her dresses fit her flawlessly (especially that one with the reptilian wing neck ruff.) Yzma’s nails are always in a state of perfect manicure; she looks great in just about all her costumes. Also, Eartha Kitt’s voice makes all the difference here.

7 The Evil Queen (Snow White & The Seven Dwarves)

Ranking The Disney Villains By Style

The Evil Queen, also known as Queen Grimhilde, is called the “fairest one of all” by the Magic Mirror for a very good reason, at least until her step-daughter turns 16 years old and surpasses her achievement. She possesses rather white skin on which layers of carefully applied make-up create a vision of incredible grace (and, to an extent, terrifies anyone in her presence.)

The Evil Queen’s hair is neatly wrapped within a tight scarf, which frames her face, highlighting her cheekbones at all the right angles. And, of course, there is that majestic crown perched atop her proud head.

6 Jafar (Aladdin)

Ranking The Disney Villains By Style

The villain in Aladdin undergoes three major “costume” changes — starting with his iconic “tall, dark, sinister, ugly” version, wearing a massive bejeweled and be-feathered headdress to match his charcoal robes. The best parts of his image are the extremely sharp shoulder points and his Cobra-themed magic staff.

After his first wish, Jafar’s clothing turns various tints of white, representing his becoming the Sultan, his second wish reverts it back to the same colors as before, except with more jagged edges, and the third wish transforms him into a gloriously imposing coal-red genie.

5 Prince Hans (Frozen)

Ranking The Disney Villains By Style

Prince Hans seems to have a powerful body lurking underneath that unassuming exterior, as proven by his battle achievements. His face is standard European, with red-brown hair and olive-green irises, but the defining feature has to be his prototypically 19th-century sideburns.

Hans’ wears the standard garments reserved for nobility of his stature, with a military-esque vibe emitted from an overall perspective. The real question is what makes him look more distinguished: the silk cravat or the pair of decorative epaulets.

4 Ursula (The Little Mermaid)

The lens used to view Ursula’s appearance should not be human in nature. In other words, she resembles a mer-octopus (if such a thing existed), given her half dozen suckered tentacles pouring out of the bottom of what looks like a gown, but is part of her body.

More than anything else, it is shockingly impressive that Ursula manages to preserve her make-up while living so deep under the ocean because that woman could probably teach a master class in how to apply eyeshadow.

3 Te Kā (Moana)

Ranking The Disney Villains By Style

Te Kā, the enraged version of the kindly nature goddess, Te Fiti, can be encapsulated in one word: magnificent. Her physique is constructed of semi-solid lava, her outer covering is a terrifying mixture of black, red, orange, and yellow, distributed across her skin in massive cracks.

Te Kā’s hair is all but epic — it looks as if her skull is a volcano in a constant phase of eruption, generating grey-black smoke and flecks of lightning with each movement. On the other hand, she looks far better as Te Fiti.

2 Cruella de Vil (101 Dalmatians)

Ranking The Disney Villains By Style

Cruella is nothing if not chic, keeping aside all the horrible things she does in order to perfect her clothing style. However, she generally chooses to wear a plain black evening gown, crimson medium-heels, skin-tight gloves, and a gigantic off-white fur coat probably obtained from some hapless animal.

Like the Dalmatians she desperately wants, her hair is split down the middle into black and white, which is quite a rare trait, to be honest. Cruella’s look is completed by the long, green cigarette holder she is rarely seen without.

1 Maleficent (Sleeping Beauty)

Maleficent is easily one of the most exquisite villains Disney has ever produced. She is incredibly tall, and her amazing black horns make her seem almost like an imposing statue. As is her style, her outfit is sleek but spectacular, bearing shades of deep violet; and the massive gem encircling her finger displays a fiery intensity around it.

Maleficent becomes far more intimidating in her dragon form, composed of an unusual palette: purples, greens, yellows, and blacks melding together seamlessly. Oh, and she breathes neon emerald fire.
