Razer Book 13 Razer Not Playing Games With First Productivity Laptop

Gaming hardware firm Razer has unveiled the Razer Book 13, its first laptop focussed primarily on productivity. Drawing on its experience of producing high-performance gaming laptops, the company has entered the productivity space with what it calls a “sleek, powerful, and compact” laptop. Announced with Razer’s typical flourish, there’s plenty about the Razer Book 13 to turn the head.

Founded in 2005, Razer’s laptops and peripherals have become synonymous with PC gaming. It boasts a software platform with over 100 million users and, in Razer Gold, one of the world’s largest virtual credit services for gamers. Now, though, it’s seeking to broaden its focus, with the Razer Book 13 said to be aimed at “go-getters, side-hustlers, and spirited entrepreneurs.”

Not content with the firm’s efforts to help fight COVID-19, Senior Vice President & General Manager of the Razer Systems business unit Brad Wildes says the firm’s intention was to break into the productivity space with a bang. Wildes explains that the Razer Book 13 is the culmination of a decade’s worth of experience developing high-end gaming machines and believes it offers “an experience not yet realized in a work laptop.”

Razer Book 13: What Are The Specs?

As its name suggests, the Razer Book 13 is in the 13-inch laptop category, with what Razer claims are the world’s thinnest bezels on any 13.4-inch panel. Although compact, the firm has afforded the display a 16:10 aspect ratio, giving more vertical space for users to work with. Options range from a Full HD+ non-touch version up to a UHD+ touchscreen version with Gorilla Glass 6.

Processor options are drawn from the 11th Gen Intel Core family, ranging from the i5 up to the i7, which offers clock speeds of up to 4.7GHz and Iris Xe graphics, and there’s up to 16 GB of memory. A vapor chamber cooling solution reduces heat and noise kicked out. Audio-wise, there are two speakers (one either side of the keyboard), which are powered with smart amp technology and featuring THX Spatial Audio.

The Razer Book 13 has an aluminum body that weighs in at under 3 lbs and is only 0.6 inches thick. Razer Chroma RGB backlights the keyboard by each individual key and allows users to customize the lighting to their preferences. Razer promises over nine hours of real-world battery life for the Full HD models and four or more hours of use from a 30-minute charge. From a connectivity standpoint, there are two Thunderbolt 4 ports (USB-C), a USB-A port, a 3.5 mm combo port, a full-sized HDMI 2.0 port, and a microSD card slot, as well as Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 compatibility. The Razer Book 13 starts at $1,199.99 and will be available this month.
