It’s not easy re-casting one of the most iconic comedies ever made, however, showbiz moves on and the Frasier reboot reportedly seems to be in development. Fans would love nothing more than to bring back the original cast, but that may not be possible, especially since John Mahoney who plays Martin Crane is sadly no more, and some of the premises need some shaping up to fit modern times.

But there are a few A-listers who’d be flawless in the Frasier reboot, and fans would definitely be happy if they got to audition for the iconic roles.

10 Frasier: David Harbour

TV’s staunchest loyalists are waiting for David Harbour to say, “I’m listening,” and he would be an impeccable pick to play the tweed-clad, opera-loving, stuffy and pompous radio psychiatrist, who also happens to be one of the most interesting men to have appeared in sitcom culture.

Harbour could easily make the role his own, especially because he and Kelsey Grammer have a similar screen presence and gait. Harbour is a pro with terrific range, if he can oscillate between quirky Netflix mockumentaries and playing Hellboy in the same year, he should have this one covered.

9 Niles: Jim Parsons

Parsons has a decade of experience playing a neurotic, fastidious, snobby, doctorate-holder, so playing Niles Crane should be a cakewalk for him. There’s a lot of texture in Niles’ character because although he was quite insufferable at times, he was a loyal friend and family man.

His unconditional love for his wife Maris and a hopeless crush on his father’s housekeeper, Daphne, was so intriguing that it kept the show going for 11 years. Parsons is one of the few names who could bring the same level of intricacy to a character that would be interesting enough to hold a show for over a decade, like David Hyde Pierce did.

8 Martin: Ed O’Neill

The Modern Family star is so used to playing the no-nonsense, world-weary dad that he could sleepwalk through the role of Martin Crane. Martin was a major fan-favorite, and in an ideal world, John Mahoney would probably reprise the role in a Frasier reboot.

But since he passed away in 2018, O’Neill could make an effortless replacement as the ex-cop, Crane patriarch who just wants a comfortable couch, his dog and is deathly afraid of discovering too much about the sex lives of his children.

7 Roz: Taraji P. Henson

Taraji P. Henson should play Roz, period. Maybe in a Frasier reboot or in a spin-off based on the colorful and breezy radio producer’s life, but she’s perhaps the only person after Peri Gilpin to possess that same kind of natural spunk.

Roz was a constant ally for Frasier and their friendship extended beyond professional confines, and actually gave us better goals than most pop culture friendships. Taraji loves playing fiery, ambitious, and self-reliant women who live life on their own terms, so she’d be the ideal pick to play Roz.

6 Daphne: Emilia Clarke

The Mother of Dragons would probably enjoy rainy Seattle and her fans would love seeing her play the sunny and multi-tasking physical therapist and housekeeper of the Frasier household. Daphne develops a great friendship with Martin, who’s her patient and becomes somewhat of a guardian for him, and the fans of the show loved seeing their on-screen shenanigans.

She was also, of course, on the receiving end of a lot of attention from Niles, who had a crush on her. Interestingly, Clarke has some experience playing a medical companion in her film Me Before You, and could really give Daphne’s character the revamp it needs.

5 Bulldog: Charlie Day

It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia star Charlie Day can play obnoxious like no other comedy actor. Fans still remember his SNL stint as the kooky Maine federal and he would be a great choice to play the rabble-rousing and rather problematic Bulldog who hosts a sports show at KACL, who is, in many ways, the anti-Frasier.

The character becomes so popular with the show’s audiences that from season 6 onwards, Bulldog almost becomes a principal character. Day could play the loud and womanizing Bulldog with a lot of finesse.

4 Eddie: Andy The Beagle

It’d be a crime to not cast someone right to play Eddie, who’s one of the most important characters on the show. Though the original Eddie, who was a constant companion for Martin, was a Jack Russell Terrier, Martin does seem like a beagle guy.

Andy The Beagle, who played John Wick’s dog in the franchise of the same name, would be the perfect choice to play the new Eddie. In the show, Eddie shares quite a bit of animosity with Frasier and Andy is no pushover since he is used to being around toughies like Keanu Reeves, so he could certainly hold his own in the Crane household.

3 Lilith: Marin Hinkle

The facial similarities between Two and a Half Men star Marin Hinkle aka Judith and Bebe Neuwirth, who plays Frasier’s Lilith, have to be addressed.

Both their characters have been depicted rather poorly in their respective shows, to fit the stereotypical description of the vicious ex-wife, although Frasier does this in a kinder way, giving Lilith’s character a cerebral edge and portraying her as a good mum and someone who Frasier respects professionally. Hinkle would be a great option to play the snooty and glacial Lilith in the Frasier reboot.

2 Gil: RuPaul

Pop culture needs the fabulous RuPaul to explore his comedy roots further and casting him as KACL’s resident food critic, Gil Chesterton, whose double innuendos have always made the pedantic Frasier quite uncomfortable, would be perfect. Gil has even tried to get Frasier to open up to possibilities surrounding his own sexuality when Frasier was seen entering a gay bar.

Gil wasn’t a series regular, but would pop up quite randomly, making this is the perfect comic role for RuPaul because he wouldn’t have to stop judging Drag Race. Plus, both Gil and RuPaul have a love for well-tailored suits.

1 Allison Janney: Bebe

Allison Janney was born to play the role of the aggressively persistent talent agent Bebe, or as Niles calls her, “Lady Macbeth without the sincerity.” Janney thrives in roles that are borderline sketchy and have major evil potential because she can seamlessly oscillate between many moods, especially if the character’s tone is grounded in comedy.

Bebe was not a principal character, but the show desperately needed someone with negative overtones, and maybe if Janney plays Bebe in the reboot, the character would be a lot more fleshed out.
