Reservoir Dogs Did Steve Buscemis Mr Pink Survive The Movie

Reservoir Dogs leaves the fate of Steve Buscemi’s Mr. Pink somewhat ambiguous, so did he actually survive the movie? Reservoir Dogs was Quentin Tarantino’s directing debut and established him right from the beginning as an exciting new voice in cinema. The story follows a gang of thieves who perform a heist – which happens entirely offscreen – and meet in the aftermath of it going badly wrong. The color codenamed survivors then bicker and argue while trying to figure out who among them could be an undercover cop.

Reservoir Dogs cast Harvey Keitel, Michael Madsen, Tim Roth and even Tarantino himself as the thieves, and it became an instant cult favorite for its quotable dialogue and shocking scenes of violence. It also demonstrated themes that would recur throughout Tarantino’s work, including countless homages to other movies, a non-linear storytelling approach and lots of bloodshed. Even the Reservoir Dogs soundtrack became iconic and was filled with great songs like “Little Green Bag” and “Stuck in the Middle with You.”

Reservoir Dogs doesn’t end well for the gang, and by the time the end credits roll all but one are definitely dead. The only possible survivor is Steve Buscemi’s Mr. Pink, who might be something of a weasel but he at least tries to keep an air of professionalism when things go awry. Following the last of the gang turning on each other, Pink hides under a ramp until the shooting stops, before re-emerging and running out of the warehouse with the satchel of diamonds.

The rest of Reservoir Dogs’ final scene focuses on Keitel’s Mr. White and Roth’s Mr. Orange, with the latter – who has been slowly bleeding to death throughout the movie from a gunshot – reveals he’s the mole. While this scene unfolds cop cars can be heard pulling up outside, and if viewers listen carefully, some of what’s happening offscreen can be discerned. It sounds like Mr. Pink has trouble starting his car before the cops show up, and gunshots are heard before they order Pink out of the car.

Mr. Pink can be heard yelling “Don’t shoot, I’ve been shot goddamnit!” as the police order him to throw his gun away, and they later tell him to place his hands behind his back. That means that yes, while Mr. Pink was wounded he did survive Reservoir Dogs, but is left to take the blame for the robbery as the sole survivor. Given that he admitted to killing a couple of police officers during his escape earlier in the movie, he’s probably looking at a steep sentence too.

On a sidenote, in 2006 a Reservoir Dogs video game arrived on platforms like Xbox and PlayStation 2, which feature three possible outcomes for Mr. Pink. Depending on the player’s ranking when the game ends, Pink will be shot and killed by cops as he escapes, captured as he attempts to flee in his car or he’ll escape successfully. The game also depicted other key offscreen events, including the heist and the fate of Mr. Blue.
