With a new and hopefully more accurate Resident Evil film on the horizon, some fans are thinking back to the original Resident Evil movies released in the 90s. Specifically, these fans are thinking about what it might have been like if the filmmakers were trying to create a game-accurate Resident Evil movie back then.

While the Resident Evil reboot film is getting reshoots, Redditor u/BlackLightParadox has put together a theoretical cast of 90s stars for a theoretical Resident Evil movie. The post is titled “In a world, where they actually tried with the Resident Evil Movies in 1999, a mighty cast was assembled (Feel free to share other suggestions!).” The result has been warmly received by fans, many of whom have taken the invitation and made their own suggestions and additions in the post’s crowded comment section.

U/BlackLightParadox began with the franchise’s original leading man, Chris Redfield, who they would have liked to see played by Brendan Fraser. Fraser, who is currently 52, did play a charming action hero in the 1999 horror/action movie The Mummy, and would certainly have brought a lot of energy and charisma to his portrayal of Chris. A beautiful but severe Jill Valentine would be portrayed by Sienna Guillory and a friendly-looking Barry Burton would be played by Jeff Bridges, while Val Kilmer was tapped for the Resident Evil villain Albert Wesker. Judging by the photo used in the list, Kilmer may not even have needed make-up–he already looked the part.

The cast list continued by pegging Leonardo DiCaprio–or rather, “Leondarod DeCaprio”–as a boyish but troubled Leon S. Kennedy and Alicia Silverstone as a bright-eyed Claire Redfield. Ming-Na Wen, who voiced Fa Mulan in the original animated films, was cast as the complex and unpredictable spy Ada Wong.

The final member of u/BlackLightParadox’s ideal 1999 Resident Evil movie cast is Keanu Reeves as Carlos Oliveira, a match that seems particularly inspired now that Reeves has embarked on a renewed career as an action hero. The Redditor did not say anything specific about the theoretical movie’s plot, but it would presumably draw heavily on Resident Evil’s existing tropes and cliches.

Comments have suggested that Brad Pitt would have made for a good Chris–or a good Wesker, as the case may be–and that Anthony Starr would have made a stunning Wesker, which u/BlackLightParadox appears to agree with. At least one fan argued that Cameron Diaz as Claire and Drew Barrymore as Jill would have been an excellent choice.

However, the comments seem to be overwhelmingly in favor of Ming-Na Wen and Leonardo DiCaprio’s casting. Though this movie never existed and, barring large advances in CGI technology, will likely never exist, one thing is for certain: 25 years later, Resident Evil is one survival horror franchise that will never die.

Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City is slated to release in theaters on November 24th.
