Rick And Morty 10 Episodes Thatll Never Get Old

Since its humble beginnings, Rick and Morty has quickly become one of the most popular TV comedies on the air. It put its network, Adult Swim, on the map after years of providing alternative comedy fans with the answers to their prayers, and it’s been renewed up to its 100th episode, so it’ll be charging on for years to come.

The series has had ups and downs over the years — with its fourth and most recent season demonstrating the show’s shortcomings as well as the reasons for its longevity — but it has some classic installments that will be enjoyed forever. Here are 10 Rick and Morty episodes that’ll never get old.

10 Meeseeks and Destroy (Season 1, Episode 5)

In “Meeseeks and Destroy,” Rick gives the family their own very annoying virtual assistants to solve their problems for them. Beth and Summer’s Mr. Meeseeks manage to fix their seemingly unsolvable problems, like finding happiness in life, while dozens of Mr. Meeseeks are unable to take two strokes off of Jerry’s golf game.

Meanwhile, Morty gets to choose the adventure for once, tries to avoid danger, and ends up facing the darkest, most emotionally scarring predicament of his life.

9 Mortynight Run (Season 2, Episode 2)

In the second episode of season 2, “Mortynight Run,” Rick sells a gun to an assassin and, in an attempt to prove to Rick that that’s morally wrong, Morty rescues the assassin’s target.

However, hundreds of innocent people die along the way and the target turns out to be a cosmic mass murderer bent on wiping out all life, so Morty finds himself eating his words.

8 The Vat Of Acid Episode (Season 4, Episode 8)

The fourth and most recent season of Rick and Morty was easily its weakest. It didn’t get off to the best start, but picked up in its second half. “The Vat of Acid Episode” is arguably the finest and most inspired installment to come out of the new season.

It explores some really mind-bending, at times heartbreaking concepts, not to mention plumbing the depths of Rick’s dark soul, with an important message about consequences.

7 The Ricks Must Be Crazy (Season 2, Episode 6)

When Rick’s engine breaks down, he shrinks down with Morty to visit the microverse inside the engine that powers the car for him. There, they find that the tiny people have created their own microverse.

The plotting is deliciously complex, while the themes explored by the episode — what constitutes slavery, whether or not ignorance really is bliss etc. — are very provocative.

6 Rick Potion #9 (Season 1, Episode 6)

The episode that first introduced fans to the storytelling power of Rick and Morty, season 1’s “Rick Potion #9” sees Rick making a formula for Morty that will make Jessica fall in love with him.

The formula ends up affecting everyone on Earth, then Rick’s solution turns everyone into “Cronenbergs,” which just makes things worse. The episode’s ending is shockingly dark, establishing the series’ capacity to blow viewers away.

5 Big Trouble In Little Sanchez (Season 2, Episode 7)

For a Rick and Morty episode to fire on all cylinders (or any episode of a TV comedy, for that matter), the A-plot and the B-plot have to both be great. In season 2’s “Big Trouble in Little Sanchez,” that is indeed the case.

The A-plot sees Rick joining Morty and Summer’s school in a teenager’s body that slowly kills the real Rick, while the B-plot sees Beth and Jerry confronting their marital problems at an intergalactic marriage counseling retreat.

4 Rixty Minutes (Season 1, Episode 8)

The show’s signature interdimensional cable trope was introduced in the season 1 episode “Rixty Minutes,” in which Rick becomes disillusioned with a reality dating show and hooks up his interdimensional cable box to show the family televised gems like Gazorpazorpfield.

This is the best interdimensional cable episode, because its B-plot, concerning Jerry and Beth obsessing over their parallel-universe selves, is emotionally compelling. And it has Morty’s great monologue about the meaninglessness of life, telling Summer, “Nobody exists on purpose, nobody belongs anywhere, everybody’s gonna die. Come watch TV?”

3 Pickle Rick (Season 3, Episode 3)

Although the memes spawned from the episode have pushed it to the brink of unbearableness, season 3’s “Pickle Rick” is still a classic Rick and Morty show. Rick turning himself into a pickle and figuring out how to survive in a rat-infested sewer makes for a great start to the story.

But it really gets going when he takes on a criminal syndicate, à la the ultraviolent antics of John Wick, before culminating in a poignant reflection on therapy and the family unit.

2 Total Rickall (Season 2, Episode 4)

Dan Harmon put an interesting twist on the idea of the clip show in an episode of Community, and then he took that premise a step further with the second-season Rick and Morty episode “Total Rickall.”

In the episode, parasites with the ability to fabricate new memories in order to gain trust invade the Smith household. Fans see a ton of clips from episodes that don’t actually exist.

1 The Ricklantis Mixup (Season 3, Episode 7)

One of the most fascinating elements of Rick and Morty has been the infinite supply of alternate-universe Ricks and Mortys out there. This element took center stage in the season 3 installment “The Ricklantis Mixup,” which sheds a The Wire-like light on corruption within the class hierarchy of the Citadel.

The episode has some truly shocking, harrowing, or otherwise super dark moments, from the Simple Rick’s Wafers twist to the revelation that the Wishing Portal is just a trash disposal.
