Rick And Morty 10 Of The Weirdest Characters Who Need More Backstory

Rick and Morty’s fourth season has recently concluded – revving the insanity levels into overdrive and pouring on more fuel for questions and speculation among its fanbase. In addition to new figures, the show’s seen the return of some of the usual oddball characters, spanning multiple galaxies and dimensions. With RaM’s latest season, Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland have managed to outdo themselves, introducing some of the most off-the-wall premises and characters yet.

With so much imaginative content and chaos packed into each episode, the list of strange and unknown players in the RaM universe has grown exponentially. Now more than ever, there’s the potential to explore the backstories and backgrounds of these bizarre characters.

With that said, let’s take a look at 10 of the show’s all-time strangest humans, aliens, and otherwise – which could use some more exploration. There’s certainly no shortage of them to choose from!

10 Goomby

Rick and Morty’s vignettes and anthology episodes tend to be even more absurd than usual – and the story-train escapades on “Never Ricking Morty” didn’t disappoint on this front.

In addition to various other colorful figures, the episode introduced an alien named Goomby; a character who had apparently embarked on a Santa-style Christmas journey with Rick. Who this guy is, why Rick teamed up with him to “save Christmas,” or why he was eager to have dinner with his family are anyone’s guesses. There are certainly quite a few narrative details left to be filled in when it comes to Goomby.

9 “Tickets Please” Guy

Another on a long list of interesting passengers aboard the story train is its conductor – who clearly gets the short end of the stick, as it were. Known as the “tickets please” guy, this man is revealed to be “ripped,” in more ways than one. After he gets gruesomely torn apart while pulled from a train window, it’s revealed he’s merely playing a game of “Roy.” Or is he?

Just as he and the audience have shrugged off this trip as just a virtual reality game, he ends up getting torn up in this reality, too. Needless to say, there are far more questions than answers when it comes to the peculiar, reality-bending life of this man.

8 Ants In My Eyes Johnson

The “Interdimensional Cable” episodes are chock-full of strange scenarios and even more bizarre characters. And because of their rapid-fire nature, rarely does the viewer get a clear look at their backstories. A prime example of this is the wacky spoof of a retail sales commercial, which features the odd “Ants-in-my-eyes Johnson.”

The questions surrounding this guy are seemingly endless. He’s able to somehow operate a store despite his vision being hindered from a swarm of ants, who, for some reason, have made a home on his eyes. Not only this, but he’s unable to feel anything either – a fact that always seems to go by the wayside.

Basically, Harmon and Roiland could have an entire spin-off show revolving around his man, and he’d likely still be full of mysteries.

7 Squanchy

This anthropomorphic cat is quite the head-scratcher, even given its influence – which seemingly stems from a victimized cat puppet in the live-action spoof, Too Many Cooks. This unique fellow apparently has a history with Rick, rocking out with him in a band along with Birdperson.

Not only this, but Squanchy basically holds a power akin to the Incredible Hulk or Popeye. A green potion of some sort – which he stores inside his tooth, of all places – makes him bulk up and transform into a hulking monster.

Again, this is a character rife with potential for his own show, given the richness surrounding both Squanchy and the planet from where he hails.

6 King Jellybean

Most viewers would rather not remember King Jellybean, an edible predator featured in the episode, “Meeseeks and Destroy.” Late into the episode, he forces himself onto Morty in a scene that’s so uncomfortable, that most of the laughter stems from uneasiness as opposed to genuine humor.

Just what made this jellybean so aggressive and predatory? And how on earth did he manage to become king of this fantasy world Rick and Morty find themselves in? One can only guess…surely any backstory and history surrounding this monarch would be a dark tale, indeed…

5 Talking Cat

Talking animals tend to be a staple of cartoons, and Rick and Morty is no different. It certainly makes sense, given the seemingly boundless restrictions in this chaotic, multi-dimensional universe.

The ambiguous nature of this cat just opens the door for all sorts of questions and theories. What exactly is this “shameful” reason the cat is able to speak? What are its origins, and what do Rick and Jerry see about its “truth” that horrifies them? Why is it so insistent on getting Jerry to take it to Florida?

This has the potential to escalate to “Evil Morty” levels in terms of its cryptic, conspiratorial nature…

4 Glootie

Jerry certainly has a knack for hanging out with some questionable characters. Enter Glootie – a walking paradox that seems fixated on the idea of developing an app, even while there’s a clear warning imprinted on his forehead to do the exact opposite.

His physical appearance is peculiar enough – the instructional tattoo, his four eyes, and aqua-blue jumpsuit; yet, his robotic persona and borderline obsession with crafting a dating app make him all the stranger.

3 Noob-Noob

Rick And Morty 10 Of The Weirdest Characters Who Need More Backstory

In a cheeky satire of superhero tropes, Noob-Noob can be seen doing dull janitorial work, showing that he’s clearly an underappreciated intern of the famed Vindicators.

Things get more interesting from there though. It seems that, despite his standing and apparent lack of powers, it’s this ambiguous figure that Rick favors the most, even over his own grandson.

Just what is their history together, and why is he the only one that seems to appreciate Rick’s humor? Furthermore – what are his powers, and why is he stuck doing “the dirty work,” as it were? These are questions, that, for now, remain unanswered. Maybe a theoretical “Vindicators 4” can reveal more about him?

2 Interdimensional Gaseous Being/Fart

Rick And Morty 10 Of The Weirdest Characters Who Need More Backstory

Any anthropomorphic being literally made of gas is bound to be one rife with oddities, especially one with seemingly boundless powers such as this. This gaseous entity, which is fittingly dubbed “Fart,” communicates telepathically and has the ability to produce any element from any atom by adding or removing protons.

This certainly raises a number of questions, as does the story behind its captivity at the hands of the assassin Krombopulos Michael. From there, things only get stranger, as Fart reveals his plot to destroy all carbon-based life. There’s certainly would have been potential to bring this ambiguous entity if he wasn’t “neutralized” at the end of “Mortynight Run.”

1 Mr. Poopybutthole

Most fans would agree that Mr. Poopybutthole is the weirdest of the weird on the show; the definitive head-scratching figure. Its “cheeky” name alone should be enough to convey this.

Viewers were in for a Twilight Zone-esque twist when it was revealed that in fact, this odd character wasn’t a parasite that implanted memories into the Smiths. Since this revelation, he’s made subtle, random appearances out of the blue in a handful of episodes.

Needless to say, the potential for this unique fellow is boundless, and there are still tons of questions to be answered as to his origins and motives.
