Rick & Morty Claw And Hoarder Every Reference In The Dragons Treasure

Here’s every easter egg that can be spotted in dragon Balthromaw’s treasure pile in Rick And Morty “Claw And Hoarder.” Rick And Morty is the co-creation of Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland and follows the scientific genius Rick Sanchez and his meek grandson Morty. While the premise sounds like a fun kids adventure show, Rick And Morty regularly inflict physical and emotional trauma on the title duo, in addition to their family and (especially) on their enemies.

Rick And Morty became a cult favorite when it arrived in 2013, and its popularity has only increased ever since. The show’s rapid-fire pacing, great characters and dialogue made it an addictive watch, and it’s also positively stuffed with easter egg nods to everything from Doctor Who to A Nightmare On Elm Street. The fourth season came to an end in 2020, and while work is currently underway on season 5, no firm airdate has been confirmed. Given the typical long wait between series, sometime in late 2021 feels like a safe guess.

Rick And Morty season 4 episode 4 “Claw And Hoarder” sees Rick make a deal with a wizard to give Morty a pet dragon. While Morty is predicting magical adventures with his fiery new pal, his dragon Balthromaw (voiced by Liam Cunningham) is a grumpy soul who isn’t at all happy with being made his slave. He’s later confronted by Rick in his lair under the house, where’s hoarded an immense amount of “treasure,” which consists of many, many pop culture easter eggs.

Some of the most recognizable pieces of loot include spintops for two characters from 1998’s Small Soldiers, the Creature from the Black Lagoon and Liam Neeson’s Qui-Gon Jinn from Star Wars: Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace. A Tesla can be seen in a wide shot – no doubt a shoutout to the previous episode’s guest star Elon Musk – and the Venus de Milo statue. There’s some Ecto Cooler, a tie-in drink for 1989’s Ghostbusters II, a Funko Pop for Dan Harmon himself, a signed album from rapper Future, some VR goggles and a lunchbox from cult 1990s animated series Duckman.

The pile also includes Action Comics #1 from 1938, which was Superman’s comic debut. While Rick And Morty’s Balthromaw was a fun character – even with his creepy soul bonding with the family – “Claw And Hoarder” was one of the weaker episodes from season 4. The storylines, including Jerry’s adventures with a mysterious talking cat, had some belly laughs but a lot of the gags fell flat too.
