Riverdale: The 10 Worst Things Archie & Jughead Did To Each Other

Being such different people and being stuck in a love triangle with Betty means that Archie and Jughead betray each other repeatedly on Riverdale.

Although Archie and Jughead seemingly have a long-standing friendship, many fans question whether they are really ‘friends.’ They are very different people who often have conflicting opinions, which makes them prone to disagreeing, bickering, and falling out. Both of them (Archie in particular) betray each other multiple times throughout Riverdale.

To make matters worse, they are two corners of a complicated Riverdale love triangle; both Jughead and Archie have romantic histories with Betty and see her as ‘the one.’ No doubt, this causes a lot of drama and falls outs in their friendship.

10 Archie Kisses Betty For The First Time

While investigating the Black Hood mystery, Betty and Archie share their first kiss outside of Cheryl’s house, marking the beginning of one of Riverdale’s most controversial love triangles. Although Jughead and Betty are not in a relationship at this time, their break up is only temporary.

Not only should Archie have refrained from kissing Betty so soon after her and Jughead’s break up (given his friendship with Jughead), but Archie keeps this information from him. Poor Jughead only finds out when Cheryl calls and tells him when she is angry at the four friends.

9 Jughead Lets Archie Go Off Alone

After Archie’s character is forever changed from his experiences in jail, he and Jughead leave Riverdale after he is exonerated, in order to keep Archie safe from Hiram. Eventually, they go to see Jughead’s mother and sister before Archie goes off alone and Jughead returns to Riverdale.

Although it is Archie’s idea, Jughead should really be more concerned about his best friend’s safety. Alone, Archie is far more vulnerable, as is shown when he is attacked by a grizzly bear and very nearly dies. If Jughead was really Archie’s friend, he should have stayed with him or at least done more to help him.

8 Archie And Betty Become a Couple After Returning to Riverdale

After the gang part ways for six years and then all return to Riverdale, Archie and Betty become casually intimate with each other. Although they do separate temporarily when Archie admits to having feelings for Veronica, they soon reunite and commit to being in a relationship.

Although it is a long time since Jughead and Betty were together, it is clear to fans and Riverdale characters alike that Jughead still cares deeply for Betty and hopes that they will one day make amends. Really, Archie should have stepped back, knowing the complicated history and current feelings Jughead has for Betty.

7 Archie Calls The Cops At The Street Race

During a Riverdale gang war, Jughead agrees to take part in a street race between the Southside Serpents and the Ghoulies. Archie races with Jughead, but Jughead is shocked to discover that Archie has called the cops.

Jughead is very angry at Archie, as he knows that the Ghoulies will want blood for this. Archie puts himself in danger by calling the cops but puts Jughead in far more danger with the Ghoulies. Archie’s betrayal begins a sequence of events that lead to Jughead being severely beaten up and ending up in hospital.

6 Jughead Kisses Veronica In The Hot Tub

While on a weekend getaway at Veronica’s lake house, Veronica suggests that she and Jughead kiss as a form of justice following Betty and Archie’s recent kiss. Although it is Veronica who comes up with the idea, Jughead agrees and goes along with it.

It is a nasty and malicious thing for Jughead and Veronica to do, as well as awkward and uncomfortable for all four of them. Archie never agrees to it, so Jughead essentially just kisses Archie’s girlfriend right in front of him. Jughead even comments that he enjoyed watching Archie’s reaction, calling into question whether Jughead and Archie are even friends at all.

5 Jughead Asks Archie To Help Him Deliver Drugs

After Jughead becomes indebted to the Snake Charmer, she asks (demands) Jughead to deliver a mysterious crate (almost certainly of drugs) to an address. Needing a car, Jughead asks for Archie’s help and the two make the delivery.

Jughead knows he has got himself in deep with the wrong people, but asking his friend to help him in his criminal activity doesn’t show that he cares much about Archie. Involving Archie means he too is breaking the law and could be arrested.

4 Archie Searches FP’s Trailer For Murder Evidence

During one of Riverdale’s best mysteries, Veronica and Alice Cooper believe that FP might have had something to do with Jason’s murder. Veronica asks Archie to help and Archie agrees, claiming to have Jughead’s best interests at heart. The pair search FP’s trailer for evidence.

While this actually turns out to be worthwhile when they realize FP is being set up, it is a huge betrayal of Jughead. Archie should have (and probably deep down did) know that this was not best for Jughead and that he would be hurt and feel protective of his father.

3 Jughead Helps Sacrifice Archie

In the strange town of Rivervale, Cheryl gathers her friends to help sacrifice Archie as a way of making an offering to the town and her maple grove. Jughead watches as Cheryl murders Archie right in front of him.

Of course, this is pretty much the worst thing a person can do to their friend (bar performing that sacrifice themselves). Had Archie lived through it, he would have surely ended his friendship with Jughead right then and there. However, fans have many unanswered questions about Riverdale in season 6, and it is possible that Rivervale is a parallel world or the setting for Jughead’s new book.

2 Archie Breaks Up With Jughead For Betty

When Betty is contacted by the notorious Riverdale serial killer, the Black Hood, he threatens to harm her loved ones if she does not break up with Jughead. Distraught, Betty begs Archie to do it for her and he eventually agrees.

This is one of Jughead’s saddest moments on Riverdale, as he clearly feels heartbroken as well as betrayed by his best friend. Although Archie is ultimately helping Jughead and Betty, he really shouldn’t have agreed to break up with Jughead for Betty as it was not his place to do so.

1 Archie Kisses Betty (Again)

When Archie and Betty pretend to develop feelings for each other while hiding that Jughead is alive, they actually do develop feelings. They eventually kiss and even consider if they should be together officially. Archie tells Veronica, but they both keep it from Jughead for a while, until Betty eventually tells him too.

Archie kissing and developing feelings for his Jughead’s girlfriend is a massive betrayal and, although Jughead is not angry, he would have had every right to be. Additionally, Archie keeps it from him which demonstrates longer-term dishonesty, rather than just a momentary indiscretion.
