According to a leaked listing by German retailer World of Games, Battlefield 5 will be set in World War 1 and will only be released on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

In an Electronic Arts’ investors call last year, the company’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Blake Jorgensen revealed that the studio’s “intention over the next couple of years is to have a first-person shooter as one of the core titles” and that fans could expect a new Battlefield in 2016. Later, Star Wars Battlefront developer DICE revealed that with production wrapped on the sci-fi shooter, it was shifting its focus back to Battlefield. It’s good news for fans that things are clearly going smoothly, but unfortunately, many questions still remain about the game will actually offer.

Thanks to a leak from German retailer World of Games, at least one question about the game has (sort of) been answered. Battlefield 5 showed up on the retailer’s website, with a release date set for October 26, 2016 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

While that release date is likely a placeholder – an estimation made by the retailer – the game’s description is far more intriguing. World of Games describes Battlefield 5 as a “Mehrspieler Taktik Shooter im 1. Weltkrieg” or a World War 1 tactical shooter, and though the retail has since changed this to just ‘tactical shooter’ the listing has been preserved online.

World War 1 may seem like a strange choice, but with Jorgensen previously saying that the next Battlefield game would be “a return to a Battlefield military-style game” it would at least fit in with that vision. Historical conflicts have also seen a surge in popular lately with WW2 shooter Battalion 1944 being successfully funded on Kickstarter.

Moreover, developer DICE may have chosen World War I as it would be a total departure away from the modern warfare of Battlefield Hardline. Set in the present, Hardline sees players assume the roles of police officers and criminals, complete with high-speed chases. Players haven’t quite taken to Hardline like they did with the last core BF entry, Battlefield 4, and though the upcoming Hardline expansion should draw more players in, numbers from BFHStats seems to suggest that interest is dwindling.

Whenever Battlefield 5 is set, though, fans will hope that DICE doesn’t make the same technical mistakes that it did with Battlefield 4. Battlefield 4’s poor launch performance (and the bugs and glitches it faced in the many months after) made the game almost unplayable and saw EA face lawsuits. Players certainly won’t want a repeat of that and will hope that the core line of the franchise returns to good form.
