RuPaul’s Drag Race 5 Queens Who Deserve To Be On All Stars (And 5 Who Don’t)

Too many RuPaul’s Drag Race queens are still waiting for Mama Ru to add them to an All Stars cast. By now, All Stars seasons are as common as standard ones, with a new season and a new batch of returning queens showing up every year. All that content means more opportunity for past queens to earn a shot at redemption.

Some queens were close to winning the crown their first time out, and others were lackluster but have glowed up since their time on the show. Still, not everyone is going to get another chance. Some queens just failed to make their mark. So, which ones most deserve another chance, and which ones should stay sashayed away?

10 Deserves To Come Back: Gottmik (Season 13)

RuPaul’s Drag Race 5 Queens Who Deserve To Be On All Stars (And 5 Who Don’t)

Nothing against Symone, who is a deserving winner, but a lot of fans thought Gottmik was a shoo-in to win RuPaul’s Drag Race season 13. Gottmik combined fashion perfection, a wild design aesthetic, and a strong signature makeup look. Along the way, she revealed a knack for performance that would make a lot of self-described comedy queens jealous.

Gottmik started strong, but she still managed to improve by leaps and bounds throughout the season. She almost never slipped up. It’ll be a total shock if she doesn’t wind up on an All Stars season soon.

9 Doesn’t Deserve It: Sherry Pie (Season 12)

Yes, it’s already obvious to RuPaul’s Drag Race fans that Sherry Pie will not return to any version of the show. She’s more than just a character whom the audience doesn’t want to see again. She’s banished.

Sherry Pie’s predatory behavior outside of the show came to light and got her disqualified before her season aired (but after filming wrapped). Technically, she was on the show. She was never really in the running, though, and she won’t be welcome back.

8 Deserves To Come Back: Kim Chi (Season 8)

RuPaul’s Drag Race 5 Queens Who Deserve To Be On All Stars (And 5 Who Don’t)

Kim Chi won over RuPaul’s Drag Race fans by combining an undeniable sense of style with an endearing shyness. There’s something so winning about her unique combination of awkwardness and wittiness. Kim Chi throws shade so subtle that a queen might not even notice.

Kim Chi debuted on season 8 of Drag Race, and she’s been such a fan favorite ever since that it’s surprising she hasn’t been on All Stars yet. Rumor has it the reason is that she’s actually turned it down multiple times.

7 Doesn’t Deserve It: Akashia (Season 1)

RuPaul’s Drag Race 5 Queens Who Deserve To Be On All Stars (And 5 Who Don’t)

RuPaul’s Drag Race season 1 was experimental, almost a proof of concept for the show rather than a true season. And the bar for achievement was so low. Rebecca Glasscock made her Werk Room entrance wearing jeans, and she still managed to be in the final three. Contestants had to be extremely rough around the edges to fail, and Akashia was extremely rough around the edges.

If fans remember Akashia at all, it’s for any of the following three things: First, for her villainously arrogant attitude with very little talent on display to support it. Second, when she tripped on her own gown and fell during a runway presentation. Finally, and most famously, when guest judge Michelle Williams of Destiny’s Child threw incredible shade at Akashia’s look to the other judges.

6 Deserves To Come Back: Heidi N. Closet (Season 12)

RuPaul’s Drag Race 5 Queens Who Deserve To Be On All Stars (And 5 Who Don’t)

Was Heidi N. Closet the most polished queen on RuPaul’s Drag Race season 12? Certainly not. Yet everyone — her fellow queens, production, and fans alike — fell in love with her so completely, no one would’ve been all that angry if RuPaul had simply handed her the crown.

Heidi was the Miss Congeniality of her season; she was the narrator of the season; and yes, she was the trade of the season. That’s what anyone would call a triple threat. Fans were heartbroken when Heidi N. Closet was eliminated. Who cares about polish? Heidi is an All Star.

5 Doesn’t Deserve It: Charlie Hides (Season 9)

RuPaul’s Drag Race 5 Queens Who Deserve To Be On All Stars (And 5 Who Don’t)

Charlie Hides never seemed like she really wanted to be there during RuPaul’s Drag Race season 9. It could have been that she was shy or intimidated at first, and fans would have given her the benefit of the doubt while she found her footing. Unfortunately, Charlie played herself after she placed in the bottom two in a challenge.

When it came time to lip sync for her life, Charlie simply didn’t bother. Standing in place for the entire performance, making zero effort, Charlie cemented the perception that she wasn’t interested in continuing on the show. It was basically a quit, and quitters aren’t All Stars.

4 Deserves To Come Back: Peppermint (Season 9)

RuPaul’s Drag Race 5 Queens Who Deserve To Be On All Stars (And 5 Who Don’t)

Peppermint came so close to winning the crown on RuPaul’s Drag Race season 9. Until Sasha Velour’s instantly iconic rose-petal wig reveal, a lot of fans were sure Pep would walk away the winner. One reason why she’s such an icon is that she made Drag Race herstory as the first queen to enter the competition as an openly trans woman.

She was more than just groundbreaking. Peppermint earned her way to the finale with charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent. She also built an absolute rap sheet of lip sync assassinations. Four years later, Peppermint’s time on the show hasn’t faded in fans’ minds. Don’t be surprised when she finally turns up on All Stars.

3 Doesn’t Deserve It: Jaymes Mansfield (Season 11)

RuPaul’s Drag Race 5 Queens Who Deserve To Be On All Stars (And 5 Who Don’t)

The main thing about Jaymes Mansfield is that she’s from Milwaukee. Who knows what kind of a drag scene Milwaukee has? Maybe Jaymes is a star there, and she was perfectly likable, but she just didn’t seem ready for RuPaul’s Drag Race. She looked absolutely freezing cold in the long, imposing shadows of her fellow season 11 queens.

Jaymes was neither good enough to stand out as one of the show’s best-ever queens nor terrible enough to at least be memorable for the wrong reasons. If one were to rank all the several many drag queens who have competed for the crown on RuPaul’s Drag Race, Jaymes Mansfield might appear dead center in the middle of the pack, and that’s not a good thing.

2 Deserves To Come Back: Victoria “Porkchop” Parker (Season 1)

RuPaul’s Drag Race 5 Queens Who Deserve To Be On All Stars (And 5 Who Don’t)

One could argue that in the history of reality TV competitions, no first season’s first boot is more iconic and beloved by the fan base than Victoria “Porkchop” Parker. It’s not hard to understand why — Porkchop’s been doing drag longer than most queens who’ve been on the show, and she’s a legend.

Porkchop also has a great attitude, and she’s beautiful inside and out. Season 1 of RuPaul’s Drag Race was figuring itself out, to say the least. Now that the show has evolved into the supremely polished state fans know and love, who deserves a chance at the All Stars Wall of Fame more than Ms. Porkchop? No one is who.

1 Doesn’t Deserve It: Soju (Season 11)

Soju had a questionable reputation on RuPaul’s Drag Race right from the start due to her casting, which was based on her Instagram account and not on her drag performances, because she hadn’t, in fact, ever performed in drag. Unfortunately for her, Soju lived down to expectations by becoming her season’s first boot. Other than that, she’s best remembered for an ill-considered story she told about a cyst.

Soju’s reputation didn’t improve after her appearance on Drag Race either. In 2021, multiple people accused Soju of sexual assault. She admitted to the allegations, deleted her Twitter account, and locked her Instagram account. Not long after, she took a break from drag for mental health reasons. Whether Soju returns to drag remains to be seen, but she almost certainly won’t return to RuPaul’s Drag Race.
