RuPauls Drag Race All Stars 6 Recap Jan Fans Call for Janarchy

Another episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 6 is now streaming, and Jan fans are loving the latest episode. This season continues to get better and better. This week the queens do a talk show challenge, Bianca Del Rio returns and the group elimination vote is a nail-biter.

Last week Yara Sofia sashayed away, leaving nine competitors standing. Yara’s talking heads are missed but this cast continues to surprise us by bringing excellent tv. What once seemed like a random hodgepodge of middle-of-the-road queens has turned into a season of fun-loving gals who are hungry for the crown!

The challenge this week is to perform a talk show experience. The title parodies Jada Pinkett Smith’s Facebook Live show. Parodying something that is already relatively obscure and only seen by the baby boomers who still have Facebook? That’s drag. The challenge is fantastic and allows us to get to know the queens better while showcasing who’d be good on a podcast, who would rock a mic at a live show, and who is unable to turn off their character persona when the cameras are rolling.

Almost everyone does well in the challenge. The first group consists of Trinity K Bonet, Eureka O’Hara and A’keria Davenport. These three are more entertaining and enlightening than any talk show on TV in the last five years. They cover HIV stigma, body positivity and sex in the most seamless and natural conversation. This season in general has brought us so many moments that feel unproduced. All Stars 6 is all about drag queens who stop being polite and start getting real!

The only person who struggles this week is Scarlet Envy. She focused too much on telling Kylie Sonique Love to keep her energy up and she comes in way too hot in the challenge. She can’t seem to drop her campy drag persona. She gets the harshest critique from RuPaul who says “it made me uncomfortable”. Ra’Jah O’Hara who is also on her team gets vulnerable and fairs well. Kylie gets critiqued for showing too little of herself and she is one of three queens up for elimination.

Ginger Minj is the perfect person for this challenge and she rightfully wins this week. Her teammates Jan and Pandora Boxx do fine but blondes don’t have more fun than the Ginger in this show. Pandora is funny but reserved. She rightfully gets the critique from the judges that she needs to, well… step out of her Boxx.

At this point, it feels as though the judges are trying to break Jan. Jan has a naturally bubbly personality. The judges read her as do the other queens and essentially imply that she’s being fake. This poor kid breaks down sobbing saying she’s “really trying” and she feels that the judges “just don’t like me.” Someone did have to be in the bottom with Scarlet and based on the performances it should be Jan. She didn’t have as many zingers as Pandora and she didn’t have a memorable heartfelt moment like Kylie. But it does feel a little cruel when Jan starts crying and RuPaul laughs at her. The Jandom might be ready for Janarchy.

After the awkward critiques, Scarlet Envy tells the other queens that Jan got the harshest critiques. We don’t know what Jantasy world Miss Envy is living in but from our living rooms, it seemed clear that Scarlet got the toughest marks. Ginger Minj must pick someone to go home and she lip syncs against… Bianca Del Rio? The drag clown struts out only simply leave stage making room for Mayhem Miller. Mayhem is this week’s lip-sync assassin and she battled Ginger but to no avail. Ginger is a camp and comedy lip-sync legend and when she wins she reveals that she chose Scarlet to sashay away.

In Untucked the lip sticks are revealed and we are shocked to see Eureka, Trinity, and A’keria all chose Jan to leave, which means that it was almost a group tie between her and Scarlet. This season has had way closer group votes than All Stars 5 which is part of what’s making it so great.
